So here we are, Ryuk and I sitting peacefully listening to the rumble of fireworks the farm behind out complex is setting off. I gave Ryuk a bully stick so after the initial "oooo what are thoooose" staring out my window at the strange lights he's been pretty indifferent....
until one of the rockets escaped and hit the back of our complex of course....
Good News: quick puppy recovery....and after a quick walk outside (double collared, harnessed, and double leashed of course) to investigate he came to the conclusion that if "mom" enjoys them and isn't phased, he doesn't have to be either...
Neutral News: My dog now associates the "bang whoooosh pop" of fireworks with tasty treats...everytime one goes off he looks at me expectantly.
Bad News: Cat is still attached to my wall and shows no sign of weakening grip....

Note to self... must have fresh mice on hand by next July 3rd...
You KNOW dogs all across the nation are shivering, rocking' and rolling' tonight, but there couldn't be a better reason than that which we are celebrating!
First storm season with Flik, a Border Collie, we noticed that the thunder was setting her on edge. So the kids, still single digit ages, would run to the door and with each flash and rumble would cheer and have a small party.
My dogs bark in the beginning when they start setting off the local towns displays & then just go back to sleeping thru the rest. For them it is more the random ones that the neighbors set off that reactivly sets them off on a barking frenzy.
My cat is under the bed...meowing: The SKY IS FALLING !!!!! She is a first cousin to 'chicken little'. LOL
the random fireworks have started....Ryuk is completely unphased now, we had someone throw a firecracker at us earlier from a moving car (so much for "oh, I'll walk him BEFORE the action starts...)....he didn't like that as much but obeyed all commands....had a kid throw a handful of snappers at us right before we got home....Ryuk's "bark all scary on command" command has gotten quite good...kid won't ever do that again, or at least not with someone with a dog...I think Ryuk's performance truely convinced him that if I didn't have my dog double leashed he would have been eaten alive....
right now the cat is chilling out in the dog crate since he seems to think when he's near the dog, or dog smelling items no loud noise will eat him
For once we didn't have to break out the starter pistol. The neighbors were happy to oblige us. I swear, I think they were making sparkler bombs, it was so loud.
Danke could care less. Her handler is... arguably a lot more jumpy.

1. His ears move to locate the sound every now and then.
2. If it gets really loud he wakes up and looks for a quieter place to sleep.
As I type this, it is 11:47 PM local time on the 4th. I'm still up because I can't sleep with all the noise. Hans is totally zonked out and couldn't care less.
