Yesterday I bought a 3 month yr old male malinious pup. To pick the right pup I put a piece of cloth tied on a whip (that I bought on this site) and imitated the movements of a prey to check out the prey drive. All pups, including the mother showed prey drive, but this one was the one that held on the longest, so I picked him, although he wasn't the largest of the litter.
All 7 pups were socialized as well (came to us wagging their tails, mother was a litlle more aloof). Today however, I noticed that the puppy is sleeping a lot.
I find this very suprising, because from what I have read the breed should be very energetic, even more than GSD's.I have owned GSD's before but I cannot remember the puppies sleeping this much, is this normal? Or is the little doggie just missing his mom, brothers and sisters?
I have noticed though, that when he is not sleeping he is very curious, when I move things, he is immediately there on the spot in order to see what I am doing.
This is very interesting because the GSD's seemed to prefer to watch everything from a distance, from their corners of their eyes, like saying: "Hey, you do not see me watching, but I know everything what is going on" .
Is the curiosity also a trait of this breed? Have you experienced this with your Mal?
Congrats on the Mal pup!! Yes, even Malinois pups sleep Keep in mind that he had a pretty stressful day yesterday, leaving his family and coming to live in a strange place. Give him a little time to adjust and you won't be able to keep up to him
My Mals are still very curious about everything, and they are almost 6 years old. As a pup, Toni was into everything. She always approached everything without fear, and that's the kind of adult she ended up being. No Fear at all.
Do lots of socializing with him and have lots of FUN!!!!
This afternoon I played a little with the Mal, it looks like the dog is more active during the afternoon and evening. Maybe I should have called the dog Batman instead of Wheaton.
Very interesting, this dog prefers food as a reward. Already learned to sit (with clicker training.
Can't wait to buy a new ball on a string!
