When looking at the pedigree posted earlier today of the beautiful working line pup, I tried to figure out whether it was a working line vs showline - without taking the pup's appearance into consideration. (As soon as I saw her pic I assumed a working line but tried to just "read" to see what I could learn.
If you don't LOOK at the two dogs and only at the pedigrees, is the way you would determine that Falcon is from a showline by way of the "2x World blah blah blah" or is there some other identification which makes this clear? I know that Seiger is a showline term, correct? What else?
For those of us who have no knowledge of the great working line dogs, how do you look at a pedigree and know what you are looking at a show line or working line pedigree?
Here is Falcon's sire's pedigree:http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/513778.html

Good question....
Never really looked at one on line, so gave it a look. But first I am wondering why does Falcon's pedigree page have unfitting female drawings with bikini's?
I guess what I'm asking is what tells you a showline pedigree is a showline. Is it ONLY the "2x world blah, blah" or is there something else shown which lets you know? Not so much what is NOT there, but what IS there which lets you know.
It is very confusing to me, to add to the confusion, you have some GSDs that altho NOT show line they are considered "Sport" that is to say they have been specificaly selectivly bred just to do SchutzHund. My Roxie comes from those lines.

Connie will be here soon to make us all feel better....
Its a combination of a lot of things.
The titles on the dogs in the lineage, but more importantly, the kennel names that appear in the lineage.
Kennels breed to specific philosophies, so while you might not know the *individual* dog named, you know it came from that kennel, so you know what breeding went into the dog. Its not a sure thing, as we've beaten the "pet from working litter" concept to death... but its another clue.
I take it the Wienerau in the other thread got your attention?
Chase that dog in Falcon's pedigree a bit. All of the sudden, you'll find working lines.
Hell, we had a guy in our club who bought a German Shepherd puppy from a BYB. Turns out, the dog had a pedigree that could put many of the high-dollar working line dogs in our club to shame.
