My 16 month old female has started urinating in her crate at night. It's happened once this week, once last week and once in June. The weird part is she doesn't whine or cry to let me know before that she needs a break or after she's already standing in pee. She literally stands/lies in it until we open her door. She is sleeping crated in our bedroom.
I have tried not giving her water a couple hours before bed, we always take a break right before bed, I am almost wondering if she is doing it on purpose. She has a bit of a tendency to hold a grudge, if you've ever had a cat do this you know what I mean. All her processes are normal. She eats, poops, works, plays just fine...
Any ideas?

She is not doing it on purpose. She is not a cat, either. And she is not holding a grudge.
That said, my first step would absolutely be to get a clean catch specimen and drop it at the vet's.
If you need suggestions for collecting a clean catch, just let us know.

They don't think like that Melissa. Something has changed to cause it. Are you feeding something different or punished her for something and sent her into her crate? Anything else different? Straining to pee when she's out?

Yes, actual puddles. Nothing in diet or lifestyle has changed. She is acting normally. We do not use the crate as punishment. When she gets wound up and won't settle in the house, she does get put in it but not in a punitive way. She is not my first dog and definitely not my first mal. She does have a personality unlike any of my others. I would not normally suspect a dog of holding a grudge. I am just trying to connect any dots. I agree that I should get her a UA just to rule out medical causes. I just think it's weird that there are no other symptoms.
Thanks for your replies.

There are other medical possibilities (like incontinence), but I'd definitely start with the common one, a UTI, which is relatively easy and inexpensive to check.
Let us know!

When I have had similar happen (and it wasn't medical) it was because another dog in the house was coming into heat. And one time the very very OCD Border Collie (sorry, that is really a redundancy) did it when we fostered a litter of kittens. (She also herds the fish in the aquariums)
My dad had a dog that would do similar when the neighbors cat came up on our porch. THAT took a LONG time to figure out!

Hello,
My AHT was doing this when he first arrived. He flew during hurricane Ivan and I literally had to go and get another crate from him. He hated hid old crate and would pee in it every time I put him in. After he got a new crate he was fine and never did it again.

I would definitely get a sample for a UA. However, seeing as the incidents are fairly far apart, and you say her behaviour is totally normal otherwise, there may be some other problem. Do you watch her when she's out to pee? If not, I might suggest taking her out on leash or at least stay out and watch, so you can take note of any inconsistencies, no matter how small.
You would be best to try and pick up a sterile sample container, or clean a glass jar out with boiling water before using it. It can be hard to get a good mid-stream sample from a female, but I have found that using a very small stainless steel (also cleaned with boiling water first) sauce pan works well. The longer handle makes it easier than just using a bowl. Then refrigerate the sample if you can't get it to the vet right away. Hopefully it is something easy to diagnose and treat, like a simple infection. Good Luck!

I had a foster GSD that had intermittent problems with urination after I had her spayed. UTI’s were ruled out, and she was eventually diagnosed, after much testing, with Urethral Sphincter Mechanism Incompetence. Is she spayed?
I would first R/O a UTI.
