Just to make this clear: I'm not asking for the name of a particular breeder and I'm not planning on adding another dog to my household at this time, I'm just curious about this.
I like to reserach and read the histories of different breeds. The variety of dogs really fascinates me. When I run across a breeder's site that looks like it has good breed info I'll bum around it and show my preschooler the pictures. I noticed that there is a wide variety in prices! Looking at APBT sites, there were some sites asking $8000 and $6000 dollars for puppies, and other sites asking $1000 to $2000.
In the opinion of those here, what is generally considered a fair price for a dog (of any breed) out of good lines from a reputable breeder? I'm sure it varies with breed, but I must admit that $8000 curled my toes. If I have to save that much for a puppy in the future, I'd better start scraping pennies together this instant.

There is no reason, for any puppy, ever, to cost more than $2,000.
You're higher than I am for a puppy on limited registration. Right now for little weasle dogs like mine $2000-$2500 seems to be the entry level point for puppies from quality lines on full reg.

Fetz as a puppy cost me $1250, and I've never charged more than $500 for a stud fee.
I am apparently behind the times........
Current "standard" stud fees for my breed are the cost of a limited registration puppy. So about $1000-$1200 or puppy back on full registration. I'm not sure if you're behind the times or not, it's been that way at least here since I started looking into it.

On topic: What's the difference between full registration and limited registration puppies?
Off topic tidbit: After telling my wife about Will's thorough PPD thread and her seeing his avatar, she's convinced that Will's forum name is not his real name... but a play on "Rambo". I had to reassure her that all forum members are required to use their real names. She remains skeptical.

Nope, it's really me. And the kidding that I took on active duty being in SF with my last name was just horrible.
I actually was kidded by the Joint Chiefs Of Staff at one time.
Total bummer.
