I give up, I am nearly to the point of just taking a match to the house and yard and calling it a day.
Frontline and advantage are both completely useless at this point. She is highly allergic to revolution so that is out.
This morning the cats went to the vet to be groomed, the house is being bombed and both dogs had a capstar and went to my mom's for the day. When I get home from work I am going to spray the crap out of the yard to see if that helps.
I need to be able to wash her to help her skin, so I need to switch to something internal.
Sentinel only works as a IGR, so the vet told me comfortis is the best bet right now.
It worries be since it is so new, and I have read that it works great, but then there are lots of serious reactions to it.
Does anyone have experience with it?

You know, we were talking about diatomaceous earth, food grade, in a thread the other day. I used it for ants, flees, silverfish, etc. and my house is completely ant free for the first summer in three or four years. Other people have used it in chickens etc. and it is recommended for dogs too. It's all natural and does not have any side effects. You might want to look into that. You are talking about flees, correct?

I tried it, sprinkled it into the floors and baseboards, and even on the dogs.
It helped a little bit, but it is time to bring out the big guns in order to retain her quality of life.

I love Comfortis. For a while our vet was hesitant about presribing it, but quickly changed his mind. There are a lot of people I've run into who use it and the only problems I've encountered were those on the Internet. I think it's a great product and very effective. It's the only thing that's worked for Conan.
Now I just need one for cats!

That is what I need to figure out too, assuming the comfortis works like it is supposed to the dogs will be taken care of.
The cats will be temporarily flea free from the capstar and baths, but I need to find a long term solution for them too.

I tried Comfortis with Kasey for a while, but he usually threw it up. That is the most common 'known' side effect. My derma vet recommends Comfortis, and in her dogs like Kasey where they are allergic to fleas, in the bad summer months derma vets now take this protocol:
Put the Frontline on and wait 2 weeks, then give the Comfortis. In 2 more weeks, use the Frontline again, and in 2 weeks, the Comfortis. They said say that they have been finding that in the heavy infestation months, the flea products (internal and external) are only strong enough to keep killing for 3 weeks. Using this protocol enables lap over time so that you have flea killing going on all month and it will end the cycle of fleas and eggs in your home. We did do it last summer and it did work really well.
FYI - Comfortis will reimburse your vet for 1 comfortis pill if the dog throws it up. So our derma vet said that she sells the first time user 1 pill and tells them to give it with lots of food. If the dog throws it up (and if they do, it's usually within the first 2 hours after taking it), then you go back to the vet and get 1 one more and try it one more time in a day or two. That way you aren't buying a whole box of it and wasting your money if they can't take it.
Maybe it would make you feel better about trying it if you knew that you wouldnt have to give it year round? The derma vet suggests using it during the warm months, and then just Frontline the rest of the year. She thinks Frontline works better, in her experience, than Advantage. It's the inability of Frontline to work strong enough during that last week that makes it seem as if it doesn't work because you can then get fleas laying eggs in your house during that 4th week.
Don't forget too, that Comfortis does not kill ticks.

My vet sells all the flea/heartworm meds one dose at a time if you want, it makes it easier on people who can pop in and buy a dose or two at a time vs all at once. I use that option a lot, it works out the same price, but is easier on my budget!
(I have spent so much money trying to kill these things it is outrageous!!)
So I am getting two and he said to come back and get another if they throw it up.
I was on a frontline plus/advantage every three weeks protocol
and they both totally pooped out.
I am, at this point, considering sending her to my mom's for a few weeks so she can heal while I make sure the house is flea free again.
She doesn't go anywhere that ticks are a problem at her stage in life, and when Loki does we just give him a thorough once over before going home.

Thanks, I hope this gets her some relief, we also left with Hydroxyzine, sulphur shampoo and prescription strength cortisone spray.
Hopefully the comfortis does the job!!

The spray is not cortisone like I assumed when she told me it was prescription strength itch medication.
It is called Genta Spray.... which is Gentamicin Sulfate and Betamathasone Valerate
I have never heard of this stuff before and I thought I had seen most of the treatments for itchy skin over the years.
ETA: I gave them the comfortis about an hour ago and so far so good, I put out a fresh light colored blanket that they are laying on eating kongs to see what falls off.
