...of an all female (or all male) litter? I thought to ask this in breeding forum, but the threads are so technically specific.
So, I'm waiting for my new pup to be born, and all of a sudden, "oh no, what is HE isn't born!?" So to all of you with experience - I ask you... single sex litters?
(oh, it's a GSD... of course!)

The biggest single sex litter I've seen was six. My papillon's last litter was four girls. I of course wanted a boy. lol

My Ch. Australian Shepherd was one of 7 boys. No girls, all boys. Pretty little boys, though.
He was an awesome dog, though.
(eta: I've finally learned something. A good dog is a good dog - gender doesn't matter. Kind of like kids, you wait a whole nine months, praying for a boy(or a girl) and the opposite gender is born - you adore that child anyway and after a bit, can't imagine why in the world you wanted the other. Or, at least that's what happened when the boy I was expecting turned out to be a girl - wouldn't trade that estrogen oozing monster for the world lol)

I'm with you on that Lisa. I didn't get my boy out of that last litter but I did get one of the nicest papillon bitches I could have asked for. I wouldn't trade her for anything.

I hear what you're saying. I just can't imagine myself with a female dog. I've met plenty of great ones at work, but just not for me... does that seem weird?

Not weird. I'm the same way. I have had very nice female dogs but I definitely 'connect' more profoundly with the boys.
My current guy is the only boy from a litter of six. In my experience, there have usually been more girls in the average litter than boys.

I had the exact same concern when we were waiting for Kasey to be born.I don't know why I prefer males too. I had a great female before Kasey, but he and I are way more bonded. From my experience, I think the males are more affectionate and want to be with you more of the time. Our female was a lot more independent. I have seen quite a few liters with all boys or all girls though.

I know of a Kuvasz breeder that got a litter of 11 girls Frost was the only girl in her litter (3 brothers). I wanted a girl but would have taken a boy. Her breeder resolved not to call me until a girl was born and she breathed a sigh of relief when pup # 3 popped out a girl

I personally prefer females to males. It may also be that she( my now female) is an exceptional dog, in many ways, moreso than the males that I have had. Although, most of my other dogs have been females, also. I guess that there is something that they offer that the males don't, at least to me.
Not sure that I can specificly put it into words.....It is possible that what it really is that I like, is the intellegent independence that the females seem to posess, as the caretakers of the species future. The bonding & affection that they offer as well as their 'pack' instincts. Or maybe mine have been exceptions to most peoples female experiences. I don't know.

There's really quite a difference, isn't there, between males and females?
Even in cows. The bull calves, or steers, are much easier to halter break. Once they "get it", they understand and there is no drama. Males are the same, every day. The females are smarter, but they have more moods, good and bad.
It doesn't seem that a spayed bitch and a castrated dog are really the same, either.
There seems to be a real difference, even if they are "de-sexed" prior to puberty.
