I know some of your here keep a variety of pets...anyone breed African Giant Millipedes (or even some of the smaller 4-5 inch American species). Since they banned the import of wild caught African Giants have gotten reeeeeally hard to find...
My old girl died a few months ago and I'm missing having bugs. I just picked up 5 Hissers and would like to give them some millipede company.
On a related note...I can NOT think of names for my two female Hissers...any ideas? One's a large dark oversized female (I"m trying to avoid Big Momma, Bertha, Helga, etc), The other is a younger super mellow girl who'd hang out on your shoulder all day if you let her. The boys are Argos, Echo, and Zack....
My son had millis for a while. They stunk...When they die they really stink. He was kinda turned off them after that.
I have Hissers that are essentially pets right now as I don't have anyone that eats them. I have 30 or so.
Had an african mantis once.....very cool animal. Looked like a mini alien.
DH bans arachnids or we would have Ts and Scorpions.
My normally creative daughter's ideas for names.......
Temperance, Roberta (spanish, not Robert A), Alene, Evangeline, Morgana, Chrysta.
DH suggestions were Split and Splat

I do love the look / attitude of the mantis, although I'm not into bugs as pets - but hey, what ever floats your boat!
I found a large praying mantis hanging upside down under one of my hummingbird feeders last summer... eating a hummer!!! Never looked at those guys the same way again. I moved him off to another area of the garden, however, the next AM - you guessed it. He was back. No dummie...
I took a pic of it - I'll have to see if I can find it.
