Falcon developed what appeared to be the beginnings of an eye infection this weekend... first in his left eye than the right. Green junk in the interior corners and the whites of the eyes were red off and on. Just got back from the vet, and he said Falcon also has some protein in his eyes which is indicative of inflamation. Normally, this does not occur with "just" an eye infection, although it is not unheard of. I asked if we should go straight to an opthamologist but he suggested we try the eye ointment for seven to ten days - assuming we don't see any increased symptoms, sqinting, sensitivity to light, etc...
I had no idea until today the GSD can have eye issues - I've always heard about the hips... I'm one of those folks who immediately begins fearing the worse, but I'm going to try and concentrate on the facts and not "what could be".
Please send positive thoughts Falcon's way... He is only 2.
Oh my Barbara, I know how scary that can be. Turned out to be a simple case of conjunctivitis in our situation, but didn't stop me from worrying until the day he woke up with clear eyes.
Sending oodles of positive thoughts your way, let's hope it's something really simple.
Send some "power marker training" vibes my way too... CJ sent me the "how to marker train for eye oinment" given to her by Dr. Connie Sutherland a while back... gonna need that big time.
Positive thoughts your way!!! Poor Falcon, eye ointment sucks. My bosses 2 yr old Collie ended up with cholesterol deposits on her corneas. Had to do the eye ointment thing 3x a day. You'll get it down, no problem, with marker training!!
