I was fishing around in my dog's pedigree this morning and got myself hopelessly confused. I was plugging numbers off of the litter certificate that the breeder gave me into the pedigree database site. I put his sire's number in and was comparing names to the certifcate and looking at titles and such when I noticed that some of the registry numbers aren't matching up. On my copy, his grandfather's number is a DL... On the pedigree database its a SZ. The names line up perfectly, but the numbers are off. When I try to pull some of the dogs whose numbers I have on my copy, I can't find them. If I follow the links on the site, starting with the sires, all of the names match.
Any ideas why this is?
I never got around to ordering the official pedigree which would probably clarify things a little. Guess I should do that here soon if I'm going to be stalking his ancestors.
Is this the AKC number you are talking about or another registration number? If you go to akc.org and join "My Akc" (it's free) and than go to the store and do the pedigree search, you can type in the name and it will give you the AKC number. If you want the pedigree you have to pay but at least you can double check the reg numbers on dogs for free :-)

The SZ number is the German registration number. My Raya and Doc that were imported from Germany would actually have both. They were originally registered with the SV (Germany) and then I registered them with the AKC.
If you can find both parents in the database and do a test mating that will give you the pedigree of your dog. (Knowing that there can always be errors, the information is only as good as the people that have entered it)
Have you tried just putting in your dog and see what happens? I know I normally make sure at least one dog from each litter is entered.
So you're saying the dogs could have multiple numbers?
This is the info I've been working from:
sire: Gladius von Spartanville (DN10815101)
dam: Millie II (DN08984202) can't find her though. I think he said this bitch was imported so maybe I'm missing a second number?
Sire was out of:
Iltis von der Wildsau (DN91498801) this is the dog that has a different number that screwed me up.
Franka vom Felsenschloss (DN06098501)
Dam was out of:
Tom von der Eichendorfschule (DN08642001)
Xella vom Schloss-Richthof (DL82589401)
I haven't done a lot of pedigree research but as I'm looking into starting schutzhund, i' m getting more interested. Its crazy how far back you can go! I could get totally lost in this stuff with my obsessive little brain!
Not sure what you mean. I was curious as to the titles in my dog's ancestry so i figured i' d plug some of the dogs in that database and see what i could find. I put in the numbers rather than the names because i thought it would be more accurate. Then i got myself all confused when some of the numbers didn't match.
Was curious if his relatives were successsful in the sport. I don't really need the info for anything specific.

I'm confusing myself Jessica, I think it's a combination of a couple of changes since the last time I used the database and for some reason my search screen was not displaying all the graphics.
A real quick search and I couldn't find anything on dam. I'll dig out my program later and get it installed on this computer.
If you drop Connie from Spartaville an email I'm sure she can tell you a lot about the male. By his registered name he is out of her kennel. She could be a wealth of information.

I'm interested in this thread also as I've recently sparked a pedigree obsession. It's so interesting to me to see how many dogs are connected by a few common ancestors.
