Is is this bad. PETA is an org that has run amok, but it is this bad.
Undercover investigation after undercover investigation re-confirms just how horrible these suppliers of pet-store and roadside puppies are, and just what people are supporting and condoning when they buy a puppy from any of these resources.
It is that bad...but in the future please keep in mind that PETA is typically crazy and their reports are not accurate (don't get me started in the "pig farm" or slaughterhouse investigations they do.....oh boy)
My husband was a Captain on the police department when the circus came to town next to ours. A PETA member had her body painted as a tiger and locked herself in a cage outside the venue. In addition to paint, she wore a g-string and pasties.
The circus then came to our town. The Chief of Police was an extremely conservative individual and feared that all hell would break loose if a good citizen saw too much skin. Doug was assigned to "control" the situation.
March in S.E. Virginia can be tricky... warm and balmy or cold as a witch's.... This year, March was cold and snowy.
To her credit, the "tiger" exited a van with a trench coat clutched around her painted, g-stringed, pastied body and approached her cage, snow swirling around. As she went to drop her coat and enter the cage, my husband had to utter the most difficult words ever to cross his lips... "Lady, I DO NOT want to see any nipples!"
To me, the most significant problem with PETA is that they, probably more than anyone else involved have set back the efforts of right minded folks who want to end cruelty to animals by bringing grist to the mill of the agribusiness interests who are happy to sacrifice the animal victims of puppy mills to prevent any real humanitarian control over mass market meat and dairy production.
The extreme "animal right wing" wouldn't have a convenient "boogeyman" without the Peta folks throwing blood on fur coats, breaking into research facilities, and releasing show dogs from their crates. Thanks to PETA these folks find it quite easy to convince farmers, ranchers and even many dog breeders and professionals that all humanitarians want to big brother their living. I mean it makes sense really: Agribusiness is foresighted enough to know that as soon as we insist that dogs and other pet animals be bred and kept in healthy humane conditions that their filthy packed feedlots and poultry operations are next.
Oh and I am impressed by PETA's use of actors and actresses as a means to further their cause. Most people have a much more commonsense approach to animals and their role in our lives. Charlize Theron is a wonderful actress and a gorgeous woman but I'm guessing a rocket scientist or even a person in touch with the realities of daily life she most definitly isn't.
