I went to the O.G. Indianapolis club at the German American Park in Indy. (Sunday). Mike Diehl is the instructor. Just remember, I am NOT a trainer or dog handler in the sense of this forum, but:
I was impressed. I had never seen any Schutzhund training in person. Obedience was first. New dogs and veteran dogs on the field along with new and veteran handlers. The chemistry between the handlers and dogs was interesting to watch and so varied.
Mr. Diehl missed nothing. While people and dogs made mistakes, each left the field only as a winner. Each session ended with the dog and handler doing something, not only right, but very good.
He also admits when he makes a mistake. THAT impressed me.
I got to see some sleeve work and I am absolutely sure I never want to be inside the sleeve.
I saw some damn good dogs out there. Mostly GSD but one Mal and that one Mal convinced me I want a GSD.
I am going back one more time to observe. I probably will never do the sport, but just watching Mr. Diehl put people and dogs through training, and watching the handlers and dogs is worth another trip.
If you are near Indianapolis, it is definitely worth the drive to scope ouy Mr. Diehl and form your own opinion.
