Does he scratch at it if i remember correctly demodetic mange does not itch, and did he loose the hair there now or did it not grow back originally? Other thoughts seeming it looks like its on his chest is he laying on anything new, rugs beds anything like that or did you recently wash anything that he lays on possible allergic reaction to new detergent or fabric softener.
He doesn't scratch or lick it excessively. The hair did not grow back from the original time he had mange back in June. No new rugs, beds, detergent or fabric softener.
He looked fine at his checkup about 6 weeks ago. I just noticed the change tonight when I was scratching his belly.
You could try putting some cortizone cream on it, human cortizone cream. Have it at room temp, just a tiny bit, just a thin film. The goal is that he doesn't notice you are putting it on, do it in the evening when he is relaxed and flipped over for belly rubbing. Perhaps he started licking there, removed the hair, this irritated the skin, now it's itchy, so he licks it some more. If you could quiet it down (the inflammation) it may all heal on it's own.
If it doesn't quiet down in a day or two (redness goes away) or appears to be spreading a skin scraping would be in order BUT-
I know Louie hates going to the vet-if you have a relationship with your vet they might dispense for you topical medication for Demodex (an ivermectin type product perhaps). This way you would be on the safe side.
