Hi Guys,
I now have Harley for over 3 weeks. He came with bad food for him, he had the run with it. I changed it to the same as Dexter have as Dexter is doing very well on it. Harley has major gas problem.
He is also always starved. He eat is food, horse hay (not just nibble but eat), horse poop (hot or frozen) and any horse feed or cat food I can see before him. Not to forget he wash the kitchen floor every day (lick it clean)
He is presently 67 lb and a bit thin and about 11 months.
I am not ready to go to raw for one more year (my old house has no room for a freezer)we are getting a freezer for the next house (to built this spring)
Any idea how to calm down his hunger. He is very active also.

How thin is he? Does feeding him additional food at meals help you stop his pica (which I would call a dog eating hay).
Is he by chance either a GSD or Collie? (I'm sorry; I don't recall the breed.)
I would recommend considering the very gradual addition of good raw fats and/or oils to the food of a healthy dog who was just a hard keeper, but EPI sounds possible from what you have said so far, and adding extra fat to the food of a dog with EPI is absolutely contra-indicated.
If this were my dog, and especially if he was a GSD or rough Collie, I probably would think that he exhibited enough EPI symptoms to get the cTLI and Cobalamin/Folate diagnostic tests done asap.
I can see the vertebra on his can and his ribs.
He came on Royal Canin, now on Pro Plan the only feed that Dexter can eat(no smelly gas or runny poop) I tryed well over 30 brand from no grain all natural to pro plan.
I am now trying chicken soup for puppy for Harley doing a 7 day change.

QUOTE: It's recommended that any dog (especially a shepherd) that has chronic diarrhea and weight loss have a cTLI test. If your dog has several of these symptoms (particularly some of the top five listed below), please strongly consider getting a cTLI test as soon as possible. I give him 4 1/2 cups per day in 2 meal. as per the bag he should get 3 cups max. I don't count all the other stuff he get like treats and the above mention
He actually looks just about perfect to me. I have to feed above the stated amount for both my dogs as well. And they still get treats and other goodies.
