Do you use water bowls or water bottles for your crate(s)? I've been bringing the pups out for water several times a day. Is it better to have a water supply available at all times, though?

Well George...with my dogs I don't keep water in the kennel with them. I find they like to play in it and make a mess. I've used the water bottles before and the work pretty good until your dog clamps down on the nozzel as they get water and bends it, of course water goes everywhere.
In my house I find that letting them out to get water is better, but it still gets everywhere because I guess they try to store it in there jawls for later when they leave the water bowl and it just get slung everywhere.
I do not leave water in the kennel, however they have free access while not crated. Even when crated for longer periods when younger, I didn't have water in the crate. (Only crated at night at this point).
For adult dogs I find these work pretty good in a crate with a snap fastener to anchor the pail handle to the bars: http://leerburg.com/737.htm (scroll down to the ones with the hooks).
I've yet to find any water container that is puppy-proof in a crate, though.
The water dish is the one great point of contention between myself and Faroh, not the chewing, biting, screaming and general chaos - all that I can deal with and understand. But WHY must you dig at the water bowl when it is full of water.... WHY!

I also didn't leave water in the crate. Mine was always crated in the A/C as a pup, so there was no chance of overheating, and she had free access while not crated...
I typically don't keep water in the crate with my girl. I will occasionally put icecubes in her bowl if it's warm.
The exception would be when she eats. I put 2 cups of water over her food. After nearly losing her to heat exhaustion, I find it's a useful way to force water intake. Left to her own devices, she doesn't drink nearly enough.
