Trying to decide what collar to get cause the walmart cheepy broke... I would like to know what people think of the leerburg collars and which of these you would be more likely to get and why.
Zuki is 55-60 lbs and was on a 3 or 4 most of the time with the walmart cheepy. I have never used a "good quality" e-collar and have no idea what to really look for in one. I hardly used the cheepy from walmart and it broke... I am going to get the DVD to learn how to use it right.
We have both the 1900 and 280. Started with the 1900 but it simply did not work when Falcon was under high distraction (ie: deer running through the woods / hunting beagles running through the woods). The 280 was better for him in those "UP" situations. Both are excellent products and will put your cheapy wallmart one to shame. Water proof, heavy duty, etc...
We were told to plug the collar/remote into the "charging unit" BEFORE plugging that into the wall, and then to unplug the unit from the wall BEFORE removing the collar/remote from the charging unit.

I have the TriTronics Sport G3 and love it. But I use it with two collars/dogs at once. I also borrowed someone else's ecollar for awhile that had a "jump" feature where in a prey situation you could jump up a level with the push of a button. That was a good feature.
I just got a set of used dogtra 202 NCP collars - 2 collars on one transmitter to use mainly on runs in the field where distractions abound. The new equivalent would be this one http://leerburg.com/300m.htm
I like this model for my dogs due to the slightly smaller size. My dogs are only 30-35#. The cheap one I had previously bought locally seems huge in comparison. My dogs are fairly sensitive and for corrections it's usually at about a 20 out of 100. So I'd have plenty of room to increase it if some huge distraction popped up out of nowhere and a lower level didn't work.
I love the page feature (just vibrates) as I can get my dogs attention if they are across the field without correcting them. My dogs are fairly sensitive (just that selective hearing...) and for corrections it's usually at about a 20 out of 100.
On these collars is the distance range mostly accurate?
How long will the batteries last for?
Barbra: When comparing the two collars you used the 1900 indicates low to high power and the 280 low to medium power why would it not have worked better do you think?
I’ve got two of the Dogtra NCP 1900’s. Absolutely love them.
I actually have a Wally World one too. Had it for years and was working the last time I put it away. The loud screecher was enough to get them to do almost anything to turn it off, never had to take it past 3. Of course it was only good for about 50 feet and the battery was either dead or dying, so not reliable at all.
When I heard about the Dogtra’s and studied up on some challenges we were facing, I borrowed one for a few weeks and had to have one. I picked up a second one last year. You can’t beat them for reliability and sturdiness. On our outdoor/mountain excursions, I don’t leave home without them.

Elizabeth - this is the SECOND time I've "inverted" these two model numbers!! The first time resulted my winning an auction on the 280 when what I MEANT to bid on was the 1900!! GRRRRR... My bad.
We started with the 280 THEN went to the 1900. I apologize for the confusion. MAYBE from now on, I'll remember which is which, but don't hold your breath.
