My husband and I are debating about if Vader should be allowed on the furniture or not. There are times that I would love to cuddle up with him on the couch, but for various reasons we haven't allowed it yet. My husband thinks that it could cause dominance issues, but I feel like if he only jumps on the furniture when asked and will get off when asked, it's not a big deal. Are your dogs allowed on the furniture? What are the rules? I will admit that Vader lays on my son's bed every night while we read his bedtime story. It's quite adorable to see my son laying there with his arms around his dog
For now he is having zero dominance issues...we use nilif and it works well with him. I don't want to ask for trouble by giving him more freedom though.
My dogs are allowed on the furniture. Personally I think that allowing dogs on the furniture can cause a bit of attitude in some dogs (at least in my experience). However, it has never been anything that a "Come to Jesus" meeting has not taken care of in my house.
I live alone and like having the dogs on the bed and couch with me. To be pretty frank, my dogs have pretty crappy house manners :-) Just one of those battles that I do not choose to fight. When people come over, the worst offenders are crated and the ones who can behave themselves appropriately stay loose. Works for me but I know it would not for everyone.
I've always let mine on the furniture and never had any problems, they know off and it's never been a drama. I also enjoy having them sitting with me I think maybe it helps the bond sometimes JMO.
When my dogs start earning the cash to replace the furniture, they will be allowed on it. However, with what I spend on doggie beds, I might have been better off letting them up.
Mine are allowed on the furniture, but they all know "Off" (and the fosters learn it pretty quickly) so it's never been an issue. They're not allowed in the beds, though, mostly because Belle mouse-killer jumped on my husband in the middle of a nap the first week we had her. (I think the kittehs told her about blanket mice...)
We have allowed the little ones up on the sofa and my son has always slept with his ACD in bed with him. Three sleep in bed with us, along with 1-2 cats. Now that the mal has joined the crew, he is allowed on the bed when my husband is gone and only while I'm watching tv. he gets down when told or on his own. The little ones have never been or had issues. The mal sleeps out in the living room on the leather sofa with no issues, and again, gets down when told. So I have never seen dominance issues.
However, it has never been anything that a "Come to Jesus" meeting has not taken care of in my house.
lol. That's awesome.

I'm very much the same. Faroh does beg to come up on the bed, but he's not allowed up without going through some OB. Or, if I invite him. He only comes up to hang out, and sleep at night in the crate. However, we have on occasion been know to nap together.
I should add that he knows "off", and I enforce it pretty strongly, as he sometimes can get carried away.
