OK, many of you know the story of how I ended up with my latest dog Tyra, the Choc. Lab but here's a review... My brother's wife decided that she did not "like" the dog anymore and wanted to breed these itty bitty Yorkies. She told my brother to get rid of the dog. He SAYS he tried to find her a home, but was not successful. Then he told me that he would have to take her out to the woods and shoot her if he didn't find something soon. I put the dog in the car and drove away. This was in May and I have yet to hear from them asking about how the dog is, or even a Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday...

Recently, I had to co-sign a car loan for their daughter because their credit is so awful and they can't do it. Not a big deal to me, so I do it. Their house is listed in the paper in the foreclosure column, yet I find out that last week the wonderful wife got a BRAND NEW car. WTF???? (by the way, MY car is from 2001)

The daughter who I co-signed for is 20 years old. She can't decide what town (or state) that she wants to live in. She is CONSTANTLY saying she's moving here or there or wherever. Again, this doesn't really affect me so I let it go. She just bought a PUPPY. After I tried to talk her out of it, and reminded her that I have the family dog right here that she can have back anytime.

I have been having a VERY hard time understanding the irresponsibility of these people... who are, unfortunatley, related to me. I am going to be living under the delusion that there was a mix up at the hospital when I was born...

Sorry for the rant, but I have been biting my tongue so much lately that I think I'm suffering from blood loss...

One of the hardest decisions I ever made was to tell my son no, I would not co-sign a loan for him to purchase a new car. He was going through a rough time as a result of numerous poor decisions (not working consistantly, dropped out of college, lying, etc...) It killed both Doug and I to say no.

He took his ol' beater car and went out near New Orleans to live with a young gal he "knew" from the internet. Watching him drive down the street with all his wordly possessions in that ol' beat up Toyota about near killed Doug and I.

For the next two years, he lived, shall we say, "on the other side of the tracks". He made a few decent decisions, made a few dumb ones; sometimes we wouldn't hear from him for months on end.

When my mother way dying I called and asked if I could fly him home to see his grandma. The young lady had had her fill and told him to just stay back in Va.

Adam came home a different young man. I guess you could say he left a boy and came home a man. Got his act together. Got a job. Lost 100 lbs. He finally saw in himself what we always knew he could be. When he got a job he loved with Verizon, we proudly bought him a new car as a gift. It was a pure joy for us to do that for him. He had earned it.

Long story Kelly to say that sometimes helping folks when they aren't helping themselves, only prolongs the agony. I know because we had put it off for too many years.

Hearing about people like that makes me sad for their family and children. Sigh....

Unfortunately, you can only pick your friends & not your family.

It makes me so sad when I hear what some people go thru when they try, out of the kindness of their hearts, to help ungrateful, idiot family members.

Gotta say, that those are the days, I bless the fact that I am an only child & don't have to deal with siblings.

Hang in there Kelly, better days are ahead. Maybe they will move far, far away after they loose their house. You can only hope.

Go hug you dogs & they will remind you of the wonderful 4-legged family that you have surrounding you with love. Oh & Paul, too.

Wow...Sorry Kelly -your post is kind of timely in light of Olivia's previous...we are alledgedly the higher species but the jaw dropping mistreatment of animals in this culture -I deeply wonder about humankind sometimes...bless your heart for taking on Tyra -is that working out? (sorry I don't know her story)..and do you think you may be able to have positive influence on your niece and the pup at least?

Family issues/problems are absolutely among the most frustrating, heart breaking and challenging situations...

Barbara, your response was a wonderful one. It is a heartbreaking thing to have to tell a loved one no when you know it is going to make things so much harder for them, or when you know that they are going to be hurt and angry. That was a heartfelt response that hopefully gave Kelly heart, as it did me.

Kelly, I'll trade you a borderline personality disorder step-mother for an ignorant sister. Family can be hard I hate watching loved ones sabotage life...
