I also like this command. Only my pup now LOVES to surprise me by doing it whenever he wants! Nothing like a 75 lb dog popping up between your legs!
I don't know the official command for mondio...I use the command "place". That is because I have taught my three GSDs each the place command. Grace goes right, Kira goes left, and Vigo goes center.
I don't do Mondio Ring, but I use 'place' with my dog.

Edit reason: Melissa beat me! Speedy, Speedy! (and what a great idea, 3 different places, 3 different dogs! :D You're brilliant!
I just used the whistle to train it and never put a word cue with it I just use the whistle.
The reason I didn't do that is I don't always have a whistle. (and I know I wouldn't if I REALLY needed a recall in an emergency) I've always got my voice to yell PLACE if needed! Since I don't do Mondio, it works just as well for us.
I taught Tenzin both "Place" and the whistle. Im glad I'm not the only one with a random place problem, my mom was just asking me the other day why he is always trying to squeeze between her legs and lying down. One thing I think I would do differently if I had to train this again is teach the dog to wrap around your leg while he is in front of you. I started with the dog behind me which made it easier at first but it created problems like backwards places. I tried slowly turning my body at an angle to get him in front of me but ended up pretty much retraining it from in front of me luring him with a piece of food around my leg.
Ohh, I like that Cindy! I was wondering about that, since I don't have a 'place' command in the house (besides GO LAY DOWN). I love 'home'! Wonderful variation!
