Bogie had his NEW rabies tag all of 2 days when it was gone. Do I worry about it? Need to have it replaced? We don't live in a city or county where he has to WEAR one -- just have proof that he's had the shot.
I got it done at the SPCA. Do they usually have replacement tags?
I also live in a city where you have to have your dog registered, and have that tag, along with Rabies on the dog 'at all times'. I'm out in public with my dog nearly every day, and never have either tag. Personal choice, but I've never been challenged about it.
I agree with Aaron- keep the paper records in a safe place where you can show proof of vaccination if you ever need to, but other then that I'd be happy for a quieter collar!
LOL, Legally, Yes! Honestly, I have not registered Koenig with Pierce Co. Whatev. I don't care. Just the same as I won't update his rabies later this year.
I registered both the cat and the dog recently.
We had some issues with a neighbor dog, and I became worried that Animal Control might get a tad nosy, so I did the online registration thing that Pierce County has.
They issue one tag for life now, so I'm not sure how they expect to force anyone to pay to renew it next year.
Our county replaces lost license tags for free, but the rabies tags come from the vet when the get the vaccination. So I'm not sure how you'd get one. Maybe call your vet and ask about it?
But all my dogs have are boomerang collar tags on their collars. I've got proof of vaccination on paper and so does my vet. Works for me.
I am sure the SPCA has a record of his tag and will give you a new one free. It happens all the time that people loose the dog's tag, and since many folks like to have one, replacement is a common issue.

Just so ya know....I was threatened with having Callie removed when I allowed her license to lapse. I suppose if you've never licensed Koe, they'll never know, but if he gets picked up....
How common is rabies in the wildlife where you are? Here in northern Colorado, and in SW Montana where we also spend time each year, rabies outbreaks occur periodically in local populations of skunks, raccoons, bats etc. any of which can get into a fenced yard. In both states if a dog comes into contact - or even proximity - with another animal that tests positive for rabies, and you cannot provide proof of current rabies vaccination, the dog can be impounded and destroyed.
Which is why rabies is the one vaccination that I do repeat every three years. Just something to consider.
