I'm raising my 11 1/2 week old female rottweiler as a working puppy. I have two 3 1/2 year old female mastiffs as house dogs. I have x pens in the kitchen, living room, and in my shop. The puppy jumps up on the sides of the pen and sometimes barks or whines when the older dogs are close, for the most part the older dogs ignore the pup in it's pen, and always leave it alone when told to come or go to bed. I have no want to have the pup outside of her pen when the older dogs are out until the pup is much bigger, my matiffs are 195lbs and 225lbs. The one time I tried, my biggest girl pulled the pup under herself with her paw and I realized I'm not strong enough to restrain an excited mastiff with no collar, so that won't be happening for many months, which is weird cause that same dog in public is so gentle when meeting other small animals
Should I crate the pup when the big dogs are out, or let the pup figure out that jumping or other wise trying to get the big dogs attention won't work, I do allow the big dogs to calmly sniff the pup when the pup is also calm in her pen as they will be sharing the house and me
That aside, you mean at the end you want the dogs to abide each other?
Off hand I'd say you're going to have your hands full especially between the two females.
Do you have toys and/or treats in the ex-pen for the pup to occupy herself with?
My Mal pup is able to behave in her ex-pen with my cats and dog loose in the same room. I rewarded her with treats for good behavior, and used a spray bottle a few times at first when she tried jumping on or pawing the sides.
I'd try sticking a marrow bone or something tasty in the ex-pen with her to keep her attention off the dogs.
hi Tabatha, by working dog I plan to schH with her, as well as some fun pulling carts and sleds. I do have lots of toys, milk bottles, treat dispensing toys and try to rotate which ones every so often, and add new things that make noise, or kongs of all sizes, I will entertain the spray bottle idea.
Hi Connie, I have had this pup for about three weeks now,
