Tasha is getting a little chubby. Its probably just because the winter was so bad this year, but I would like to take a few pounds off of her. I need to pick up some food today.
She already gets a relatively small amount of food for her size. I guess cutting it back even more and adding some veggies to fluff it up wouldn't hurt.
Maybe she takes after me. She gets tons of exercise and doesn't over eat but she's still getting fat.
Momma's girl.
Hah!
EVO is in my rotation. I agree with Melissa; try to cut back a little bit. Chula gets about 2.75 cups per day and stays pretty trim. (and her exercise requirements are pretty modest in comparison to a GSD)
If I have done a fair amount of marker training that day and used food rewards, she will get even less than that...
I really don't feel badly about the small amount in her bowl; it keeps her food drive right where I want it for training...
Here's the thing, she already only gets two and a half cups a day.
I just don't want her to start eating weird stuff and stealing food out of hunger. If I start mixing veggies in is it the no salt canned ones that I should pick up?
Eighty-ish. I haven't weighed her since last summer. She's going in for a vet visit in a few weeks for a checkup and titer. Ill find out for sure then.
She isn't wicked fat, but I've noticed her sitting crooked more often and her waist has lost a little definition.
I thought more about it and figured out that its probably the kong stuffed with goodies that I leave with her when I have to work. When she was a little younger she could eat that stuff with no effect on her weight. Now that she's maturing the extra calories are catching up.
She has mild seperation anxiety. The kong is our friend. I'm going to have to figure out new diet fillings.
Ahhh, I bet you are right. The food quantity really does not seem to be out of line for a dog her size. Chula's 90 lbs, but much lower exercise requirements...
