well Cody has been off all meds for about 4-5 days and is doing fine. He is still eating the chicken and rice diet, which I plan on changing soon.(gradually)
I just got off the phone with specialist and they are firm on wanting cody on prepackaged diet for dogs with intestinal disorders. Their reasons: Limit the ingredients-new protein source-balanced diet. They recommend Royal Canin. I state my case and they are really unable to answer any of my questions fully and send me to my regular vet who sells Royal Canin. I will need a prescription, an 8.8 lb bag is $35.!!!!! They understand my desire for fresh food but they do not think this is the best diet for Cody. So, here I am again. I will have to formulate my own diet for intestinal problems. I looked up Royal Canin and am having a hard time finding a site that lists the ingredients on each bag. I had researched the other two they recommended and told them the ingredients and I would not feed that to my dogs. Hill and Iams. Iams wasn't half as bad as Hills. But still why should I feed my dogs dry hard food when they can have what they were meant to eat, like us real food.
So,
has anyone tried or heard anything about Royal Canin? Or maybe formulated a diet for intestinal problems for dogs? Jerry and I want to keep it fresh, even if we have to cook it.
Any suggestions? Thanks sharon
Here's the website on vet diets. If you drill down you can find the formula and the ingredient list from there.
RC- Definitely not my favorite manufacturer of dog food, but with the same logic why couldn't you use the wellness limited ingredient line? It certainly wasn't $35 a bag last time I saw it (it's not cheap either) and it has far more limited ingredients than what I'm seeing on the average bag of RC Rx.
They carry their stuff at Dog Daze in Puyallup.
I got a small bag of the Venison kibble to try the brand out.
Danke seemed to like it, and I noticed no negative effects.

I've been there- but only once, and I was in a tizzy at the time about Koe and his diarrhea. At that point I think I was on a mission looking for Instinct Rabbit Formula. Didn't notice it. Seem like a cool food- and lots of novel protein!

Edit reason: I forgot to check my spelling. :)
thanks Aaron. Yep, I do not know what they are thinking! If I want a limited diet, say duck, can't I just buy duck and feed it. Can't I just buy rice and or potatoes and feed it? Isn't alive food, better than dead, or nearly dead?
