After his shift, Andersen brought the dog home to Waldwick, gave her a bath and introduced her to his wife, 7-year-old son and 4-year-old twin boys.
"She was just great with them, she let them pet her, she listened better than my own dog does," he said.
He and his wife decided to take her to Oradell Animal Hospital for a checkup and to see if she had a microchip, which would enable the hospital to locate her owner. The dog did have a microchip embedded under her skin, which a staff member was able to scan and discover the dog's name and owner.
Andersen still remembers the moment the staff member said the dog's name for the first time.
"The dog just went ecstatic and just started shaking her little tail," he said. "That's probably the first time she heard her name in three months."
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
