We just got a 5 mo. old Yorkshire mix puppy 4 days ago. She is fine in the crate (until yesterday, where she spent the whole day).
The problem is that she wont do her business outside! yesterday I bought Leerburgs book on housebreaking problems and I followed his advice to a T. The problem.....she hasn't gone to the bathroom anywhere for more than 24 hours! I take her from the crate, leash her, take her to her place outside and wait. She does nothing, so I put her back in the crate and waited and hour and tried again, and again and again. She didn't eat or drink much yesterday either. I finally took her for a long walk yesterday afternoon, still no potty. Got up a couple of times during the night, nothing. Im am now very worried and am tempted to just let her do her business and clean it up, but I am trying so hard and hate to do that.
Are there blankets or anything like that in the crate? If so I would suggest pulling them out and feeling/smelling closely to see if your dog eliminated in the crate. I know we used a crate to big for our dog at first and didn't immediately realize he was urinating in the corner because we could not smell it and never felt back there.
find out what the last owner was doing, and check to be sure she is not sick or eaten something that is plugging her up. my pup finally peed on grass today for the first time (many trys ) the snow is melting fast and that is all she knew
I got her from another owner, who only had her a week. (she said her husband was alergic, now I wonder). She seems happy, but now she shakes when I take her out of her crate and leash her....I think she afraid of the leash now.

Do you mean shakes as in shivering in fear or shaking like a dog shakes his whole body sometimes when he stands up, etc...?
