I've poked around this forum for a while and just recently joined, so thought that I'd say hello to everyone and give a little intro.
I only adopt, and only adopt animals (varied species) that are problematic and in need of a home that is willing and able to help them. For the first time in my life, I presently have only one problem "child." (It feels very strange.)
That child is Thor, a surrendered Dutch shepherd who had no training. (My last problem dog was also a surrendered Dutch.) Adopted in June 2010 at 18-months and described as "just a very tough dog" by experienced DS handlers, he has come a long a way thus far in his forever home, but we still have a long way to go in our journey.
He's a VERY confident boy. Intelligent, high-energy, interactive, high prey-drive, doesn't know fear...and has--um--a sense of humor.
He learns "tasks" the first time, no problem--smart. However, the problem that he and I are working on is his impulse control in regard to aggression. (His aggression isn't fear-based.) He's had successes and I'm very proud of his progress, but like any training, it's a process.
