here are a few short vids of my pup..he is about 4 months old and I would love to get any feedback as to how I can improve...after watching the video for OB i realized i'm slacking on my "yes" but all your oppinions are welcome
One thing I noticed for improvement is his sit at heel position. If you want to compete, then you'll want to start rewarding straighter sits. You could do more against a wall so that he can't swing his butt out, and also reward more with your hand on the outside of his head, or directly above his head, not so close to you. If you reward close to your body, then his butt will swing out, but if you reward on the other side of his head, then his butt will tend to swing closer to you.
Super nice pup though! He has great focus and drive to work! I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous.
1) You say Yes and feed at the same time. Then the YES looses it's value and your hand movement becomes the cue for the dog. You have to mark witha YES or CLICK and then move your hand to feed.
2) You say "YES" in different tones . It should be in the same tone always.
3) While playing tug, don't let him hang from it. Play for a few seconds and let him win it. If you make him fight for it too much it becomes more about the toy than about you and him.
4) Also when he outs, mark it and let him have the tug back a few times. That way he thinks Out means I get to have the toy back . This will make the outs more reliable.
awesome feed back thanks sooo much!!! i just finish a book that said the same thing you are saying and have started to work on rewarding him more on the outside of his head to line him up correctly...also every time he does out i have been instantly rewarding him with the tug...just recently have i started asking for a sit before rewarding him...the reason i started that is because he will ALWAYS instantly try to rebite as soon as he outs. kinda like he will out and then jump on me or go for the tug whether or not my hand is there lol. so i make him sit to help his focus on what i am asking. do you think that is a correct way to regain the focus on me? i also read about using two 1 ft lengths of hose to teach him i am the center of the game and not just what he can bite. i throw one and when he comes back and drops it i throw the next one the opposite way. the book says that will encourage his foundation of ME being the center off all entertainment.
ty for the complements on Ace..the breeder did a WONDERFUL job in breeding the perfect match of a service bitch who works with children and as a service dog for her owner who has lupus...not to mention amazing drives in her schz work..and an amazing dad who is ALL drive and VERY Hard. the combo has made for a trying time for me as a first time schz owner..but I was just very blessed to have the oppertunity to own one of their pups.
