My mom is visiting us for a little over a month(for my pregnant sister) and she is obsessed
with feeding my dog and trying to "train her"
I have been working with Izzy for months to get where we are now and now I feel everything I have done and am still doing is going down the drain with her coming here.
I have been working on come and she was 95% consistent inside the house it has gone down to 2%.
She jumps on my mom I tell her off she blows me off and my mom says in a baby voice stop Izzy than gives her food, basically rewording bad behavior I have been working on that command because my sister is pregnant and that is unacceptable. Progress was great now that is 0%
I am constantly telling my mom not to do that or this and she blows me off because she knows more (the woman that has not had a dog since my 37 year old sister was 13 years)She gives Izzy love so Izzy will like her.
I am getting frustrated
Will things get better when she finally leaves?
I am 19 years so I don't really have a voice with her she does not respect my opinions.
Now, now Sunday is Mother's Day . Try tethering Izzy to you, so you can control her interactions with Mom. And then put in the earplugs to drown out the criticism.
The easiest way I've ever taught a dog not to jump is by keeping them on a leash and stepping on it before they jump. Having that option removed; they default to something else. Wait for one which is acceptable like a sit (hopefully you don't have a barker ). Mark it and reward and eventually you will have a dog with a very polite greeting behavior and you will have expended very little energy to get there.
Also, I've been a daughter for 48 years and a Mom for 23...this fight is not worth the energy you're putting into it.
Mrs Jones insist on having Puppy Drago take a flying leap onto her lap while she is in the recliner. He does it every time we let him in. I asked her to stop doing it. In a matter of weeks he'll be as large as some full grown GSDs. When he gets to the size that knocks her over, my response will be "You trained to it, now YOU can untrain it

I am picturing the entire recliner tipped onto the floor with Mrs. Jones and Puppy Drago sliding slowly together down the part where your back is supposed to be resting, heading for the floor head-first .....

I am picturing the exact same thing only in my picture Mrs. Jones is really really pissed and Dennis has a huge smile on his face
it'll happen, he starts his run from the kennel thru the back door, across the living room and onto her lap, he's at terminal velocity. I'm thinking of puting wall and "A" frame jumps in between, maybe a chute or seesaw....

This exact thing has happened at my house, only it was Mr. Grissom and puppy Savanna. The two of them used to love sitting in the Lazy Boy together when she was little. She grew up, they still sat together, Mr. Grissom had the chair reclined a little too far back..........
