Advice needed: My dog on thurs had a tiny red spot on top of her left, front foot. I inspected the area between the pads of her feet, and found no cuts or any puncture. My dog was not licking the area at all, and exhibited no limping or discomfort while I was looking at her foot. Today there was a little more hair loss and the foot is slightly swollen. Again, no discomfort upon examination, no limping, and the area is a little bit larger than a pea. I made a vet appt tomorrow at 2PM. Never seen this on her before, and am wondering if maybe I'm overreacting and should wait a couple more days??

If it were my dog, I'd treat it as a "Hot spot" and wait, in your case since you haven't seen it before and don't know how to treat it, see the Dr tomorrow

That was my first thought as well...hot spot. Is she licking it? I would treat it and keep an eye on it. Trying to figure out why she is fixated on that spot should be a priority...is there pain in the joint/etc.

No licking, no limping, no visible cuts, but the area has hair loss and it looks shiney(oozing clear substance). Sigh. If the vet didn't cost $90 just for walking in the door(NYC has high prices) I wouldn't think twice about going. Everytime I go to the vet, for the most minor thing like an ear infection it always seems to cost me at minimum $150.....city life...

Hahaha, I've never been to Virginia:-) My parents are in Missouri and when I'm there I have her teeth cleaned at a vet there for 1/3 the cost of here in NYC. Ugh, my vet lives in a luxury highrise doorman building, and I guess it's people like me that help finance this lifestyle.

Swollen foot .... I don't think you are overreacting. As Melissa said, I'd want to know why there was both swelling AND licking. Seems like the kind of licking that pain prompts, and that the spot you show us in the pic is from the licking (not the injury).
(Man, that sentence sounds stupid. )
If you cup that paw in your hand, do you feel heat compared to the opposite paw? Heat like from inflammation?
Oh, heck. The swelling and the licking combined would probably push me into the vet's office.

There has got to be cheaper vets outside of the city. Is their a Vet school close by? also check your SPCA, ours has on sight vets for people on budgets with pets, they also handle routine stuff besides the free spay/nueter stuff
