My 4 year old GSD "Blue" has been coming to the pub with us since he was a puppy. He loves all the attention and a lot of the regulars bring him treats.
Recently, he has become very afraid when people are playing darts - he actually will back away as far as he can from the area they are playing.
What did happen once that a dart flew off the dart board and hit an ashtray so it's since then that he has become frightened.
Any ideas on what to do? So far I have tried giving him special treats just when darts are being played but not with much success
This is out of character for Blue as he is normally "bomb proof".

The idea of giving treats when they play darts is good, however, the ashtray sounds like the key.
Toss a few darts in the ashtray and see if you get the same response. When you give the treats, be careful you aren't rewarding the spooky behaviour, and not for being calm.
Just buy him another pint until he don't care about the dart board...there has to be some bitches in there to flirt with, eay?
On a serious note... just start dropping stuff around the house to condition him to dropping noises...and have fun doing it... act like that sound brings you a lot of pleasure and you really enjoy it.
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
I am not a dart player myself but did throw some at the pub to see what Blue would do - it didn't phase him at all probably as he could see it was me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
The pub's female Flatcoated Retriever used to be his girlfriend but since they got her spayed - he's not as keen. He loved her one week and once she was fixed he noticed the difference and was giving her the cold shoulder
