Free to good home: 2yr old DS. Has CGC & HCT. Currently ready for SchH BH. Easily capable of going to SchH3. Strong herding instinct, in training for JHD. TERRIBLE guard dog!!!!!!
(just kidding... most of you should know I'd never part with Koenig)
My idiotic brindle beast let Richard 'break in' tonight. I was in the shower in the very back of the house. Koenig was in the bedroom with my 3yr (who was trying to fall asleep.
RIchard managed to unlock the door, bust quickly through (he was thinking I'd be in the living room, was trying to scare me). He made it all the way to the back bedroom before Koenig noticed.
Richard said Koenig was busy taking a carpet bath.
Seriously, dog? What a dork!!! Guess we'll have to set up some staged break-ins. Apparently I have an utterly useless 85lb scary looking dog. Boo.

So, that sig pic should be something like, "If it's Dutch, come on in for a bite to eat, and help yourself to our TV when you leave!"
J/K!
Never know. Maybe Koenig was tipped off by a familiar sound or something and knew there wasn't a real intruder.

God, at this point Michael I'll change it! ROFL.
He probably did hear the Jeep. Richard parks about 20' from the bedroom. Window was partially open, now that I think about it...
Hey, thanks- you just gave Koenig a waiver for his moment of idiocy. Wait... he has lots of those. Crap.
I still think I'll set up some fake intruders. Make the dang dog work for his food!

Yes, I don't think it is a fair test unless you get a complete stranger to try exactly what your husband did (minus the Jeep). When I come up the front steps Jethro doesn't make a sound. He is even getting better about letting Matt in without a fuss. My brother came up the steps today and you might have thought we were under siege by a zombie invasion.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
Turbo reminded me today how in tune their senses are.
We were a mile away from home talking to a friend in the neighborhood. Turbo is getting his butt scratched by the friends 2 small children, oblivious to the world around him, his back to the road. My wife drives by coming home from work at 30 miles an hour and 20 yards away from us. About 5 seconds after she passes by, Turbo's head goes up and you can hear his nose poppin' he is sniffin' so hard. We walked to the edge of the road and he is sampling the air like crazy and looking back and forth and back and forth down the road.
They can pick up on more than we'll ever know.
And then turn around and be dumber than rocks the next minute.

COOL Michael!!!! I bet that was fun to watch. You're totally right- they are much smarter then we give them credit for. Yet always surprise us with the dumb moments.
Maybe he's just keeping me on my toes.

Lol, guaranteed he knew who was coming in. I have always lived in apartment buildings and my old dog has always known when my husband is home. He has always been able to tell the sound of our car arriving, or the car door closing, etc., even on upper floor apartments near traffic.

I always wonder about my dogs. They have let my husband in numerous times without a peep but other times they bark up a storm!!

Yeah, I agree we should give Koenig the benefit of the doubt and believe that he knew who it was and felt it was more important to keep watch over your child than to greet someone he knew at the door.
I have to wonder about my dogs, sometimes, though. There have been occasions when my husband has gone out the back door and into the garage, say, to get the snow shovel, then gone straight from the garage to the front porch. We have a big picture window in our living room overlooking the front porch, and the two dogs will see him out there and bark like crazy at the "intruder."

I'm not sure how long before a dog recognizes a person. I was laying on the couch watching tv a few months ago. Dom was asleep on the floor beside me. He heard someone walking on the front porch and started alert barking with his hair hackled from head to tail. When my husband walked through the front door, Dom jumped into my lap like a fool.
Not sure if he was leaping into mommy's lap to be rescued or what. But he didnt recognized him till he was 5 feet in the room.
