Hi Daniel. I will answer to the best of my knowledge
1. I dont think so. Dominant dog collars are ALSO used as a backup fpr prong as the prong collar comes apart some times.
2. See 1.
3. I would not do that to my dog. The correction needs to be quick and precise. I dont think the DDC can do that, unless you are trying to correct aggressive behaviour like lunging, growling, biting etc. DDC cuts off the air supply to the dog. I would not use it in training
Ditto what Ramachandran said, but perhaps it would be helpful if you shared your plans for the use of the dominant dog collar. I don't have what I would describe as dominant dogs, but I always use something similar to the DD collar just as a backup for my prong, so if the prong comes off, I still have the dog on the leash.
I'm hoping this will serve as a bump and some of the more experienced trainers will chime in. I don't have any experience in using a DD collar in the way you describe. Personally, I don't think you would get the right tactile feedback (if that is the correct term) to give a good correction. You can take the air out of a dog with one, but for an obedience correction, you want more of a pop-and-release action.
I'd like to hear what others use when they don't feel they need a prong for every training session but still want to be able to give a correction when needed.
you know this question really interests me alot. i have watched Mr Fawleys dominate and agressive dog cd and when its used the handler picks up the dog strait up, front paws a inch or two off the ground pause then the dog is released from the correction. there is no snap corrections persay like a chokie or maybe a prong. if i am wrong please correct me i have never used these collars before. Mr Fawley also said that unlike prongs these callors will not escalate the situation but designed to calm the dog down by briefly taking his air so can you use it for regular training? my friend has one and really founds it effective honestly though i have not had the time to really ask him all the questions i should as of yet what does everyone think?
no i do not have a dominate or aggressive dog my friend doesnt either but he is a bit excitable and is a dominant breed he does have a DD collar and uses it. he is finding it very effective infact, he went into a training session with a trainer and was using it the trainer was annoyed with him cause my friend knew more about this collar then she did and made the training session a little harder just to prove my friend wrong she couldnt but i dont know how he is using it either. i definatly think i will be talking to him very soon haha. it has me even more curious. he originally got it as a back up with a prong like most people do.
for me thinking it thru and what others are saying i am not sure i would want to use it for anything but a aggresive or dominate dog because its purpose is to calm the dog down. i like to work with drive not against it when i can, it makes everything more fun.
