Was out doing some yard work today and the boys were hanging out. It’s hot and muggy so they were pretty laid back watching us work.
The Egge is the one toy that kind of hangs out in our yard. It’s remained intact due to the design and shear quality. As well, none of them have found it particularly amusing, not like some dogs I’ve seen. Vince is the only one that will play with it, but only if I play with him, kind of like a doggy soccer game.
So not paying too much attention to them and focused on the task at hand, I felt a little a nudge. It was Vince, with the Egge IN HIS MOUTH. Now this is the large one and I swore the ball to jaw ratio, not to mention the texture, would make this impossible. Not!

Another great toy quality tested. But I must say, he’s totally infatuated with it now. We’ll see how many more miles we can get out of it before total destruction.
Needless to say, it will no longer be hanging out in the yard unsupervised.

AMAZING! I could hardly believe it! None of mine ever even attempted to pick that up in their mouth! I never would have dreamed it could be toted around like that.
Look at that 3rd picture; the Egge is as big as his whole HEAD!

I didn't think it was possible either. I think that is one of the reasons Vice doesn't like it. From that last picture it looks like he got a tooth in it which would facilitate the carrying.

I know hey! Totally blew me away, couldn’t believe what I was seeing, had to run and get the camera.
I think he was so interested in playing - we had a great game of soccer yesterday, which we both really enjoyed. He hasn’t got the footing figured out to make it move on its own though. I’m thinking he was so desperate to get it to me to play that his sheer determination got his jaws into it.
We’ve had this ball for months, probably six or seven and other than a few scratches, nothing. And it’s never been a “go to” toy. I always have to initiate it.
We had a great soccer game after the pictures!!

Yup, and his defense would have put Pele (I think he was a soccer player) to shame.
A whole new aspect to the game. This mouth thing is new so it takes him a bit to get it picked up, which gave me time to get to it and scoot it out from under him. But when he gets it, proud as punch with play bows and a bit of 'catch me if you can".
Not sure how this is going to pan out but we'll play with it for now.

I wish there was video.
When you try to get it away, does he turn around so his butt is facing you while his mouth is busy trying to grab it?

Connie, that's exactly what he does. Positioning himself in between it and me, And he's not a super vocal dog (thank god) but the new aspect to the game has got him making some strange noises.
Like I said, not sure how this will pan out. I don't want to encourage resouce guarding now that he's "made his mark" on it in a way that I'm sure only he can appreciate. But it's brought a whole new level to his appreciation of this toy.
I have it sitting here beside me and he's staring at it.

Okay, now this is a goofy game and I really put myself out there for him. I've had an audience on occasion and the snickers from neighbors is more than enough to keep me from posting it on the World Wide Web.
But... we'll see. Have company coming over and if the mood hits me, I may just indulge you... MAY, a very big MAY.

Oh, I have never seen my dogs transfer the guarding action during a game to resource guarding when the game is over! I will be interested in what others say. Between the end of the game and the toy-putting-away I have never seen any continued interest in the toy.
One of mine who guards the toy like a fiend when we play like that, moving in a circle and keeping his body between me and the toy until it's secure in his mouth -- that toy is pretty much dead to him when the game is over!
Plus I don't leave toys out. Toys come with me only, or back when they had crates and I worked away from home, inside the crates. No toys just lying around to be fixated on.
