If you are a very active person with your dog it's not a bad idea to carry a thermometer with you. A cheap dept store style one does fine. Get used to what ur dogs normal "working" temp is and its easier to keep and eye on it. Being a working dog handler that has been to the middle east several times with different breeds of dogs we are very familiar with this
Can anyone offer guidelines for what they do for exercise (limits of) in the heat?
I got up early and took my guys for a walk at 5:30 this morning but it was still around 80 deg/80% humidity. I think 79 was the low for the day and we had it already... we did a mile and a half at a quick pace (walking) and they were very warm by the end- didn't want to push them.
I see other folks running with their dogs and they don't seem as affected by the heat. Not sure if it's a breed thing (the other dogs I see seem to have short coats, not GSD coats), or if my guys are just out of shape?
