My post did not come through for some reason. The link was a picture of him but I still do not know how to get it to work correctly.
The floating rib is on his left side, the vet said sometimes it happens in puppies where the 13th rib does not go all the way underneath but is rounded it is shorter the right side of him is normal. It looks like a ball is poking out of his fur and is only noticable when he stands. He said that it should not affect his health but if I see anything odd about him is to bring him in. It is new to me and very odd but he said when he fills out as he gets older it should not be noticable but if he is the type to remain thin then it will be noticable.
When I first got my puppy at 9 weeks, I could easily see and feel her floating ribs on both sides. Now that she is 6 months old, it is not noticable at all even when I push on her side to try and feel it.
While I'm not qualified to give you any veterinary advice, I just want to share the fact that my male Doberman puppy had a funny lump or bump on his last rib on one side of his body when he was about the same age. I had completely forgotten about that until reading your post.
As he grew up, the abnormality disappeared, and even with his short coat and lean body weight, nothing out of the ordinary can be seen or felt now.
Thank you, it is good to know that others did experience this before. I am going to see what happens later on and hopefully it will do the same as it did with your dogs. His father weighs between 90-95lbs and the mother is about 75lbs but his grandfather is 110lbs. He goes to the vet again in 3 weeks for his final shots so maybe by then or later as he ages it will be gone. I was always curious how it forms that way in some puppies.

How did/does it feel? (Just curious)
Is it like it's moving, or just kind of un-tethered?
It feels kinda like a soft squishy balloon and moves around. I used to worry that I was hurting her when I would push on it but it never seemed to bothered her. Just for fun, I would make her bend to really make one of them stick out. Now I can't feel them and sort of miss my "squishy girl". LOL
Wow, I can only feel one that is on her left side the other side just normal.... The one that my puppy has feels like you can roll around but stays within that same spot and is noticable unless he is sitting. They say if the pup is active and is moving around alot then it will show more but you can feel that it is round but not squishy like a ballon- I guess I cant really say how it feels lol.... I hope it will go away...It makes me feel that I am not caring for him enough but I know I am....
