This may seem like a dumb question but I really am wondering about this.
Mojo is my first Mal & he's 19 months old. As compared to every other dog I've ever had (labs, std poodles mainly) he isn't much of a tail wagger. Is this a breed thing or an individual dog thing?
My Mal Toni will wag when I talk to her. When she's really excited, she will wag her tail in a circle. If she's suspicious about something, she will do one wag of her tail while she's looking at the person or object she's not sure of.
Her sister Caterina will sit and tap the end of her tail on the floor when she wants to get my attenion. If she's finished dinner and has been in the crate longer than she thinks she should be, I will hear the tap-tap-tap of her tail on the floor of her crate.
mine doesn't either. He will do it but not a fast wag. Highly focused dogs..
what are you using yours for?
At the moment, he is a possum hunter extraordinaire! Other than that, we're mostly working obedience. He's supposed to be guarding the house, but so far I'm only safe from possums & squirrels.
I have a GSD/Mal mix and she is 6 months old now and at first she never wagged her tail, ever! I thought this was extremely strange. I'm glad you asked. Now she wags it all the time. When I hear her tail thumping on the wall I know someone is coming down stairs. She even wags just the last couple inches of her tail when she is sitting or lying down. Maybe it's the GSD in her. I'd love to post a picture, but I don't know how, she looks 100% Mal. No trace of GSD visible.
