Hi family, I have two GSD one male one female just over a year. They are train in Schutzhund, and performs guard duty at random days in my perimeter of the house and grounds.
My question has a lot of pressure on me, but, I hope I can do this: as the heat gotten hot, I have one condo for the dogs in shade, and another in partial shade. Can I put both dogs in the shaded condo? 16 by 6 area with a porch
Or would it be better to have my male loose on the grounds, and keep my female under the shade. I think that would be best, since my female can be aggressive, no fights but groulings which is a signal to lay off
They do get along fine but my gut tells me to be careful, now that they are about grown, so funny, I feel like a rookie, but I am cognitive of my dogs, maybe I just needed to sound off, what say you. Dan

If you are considering breeding you need to keep your male cool. Too much heat can affect his fertility, at least for a month or so following a super hi heat incident.

Hi Betty, thanks for that information, I did not know that. I was putting the comfort of the dogs first, they have thire kiddie pools, and I move them around in the shaded area from time to time. Not easy with my condition, yesterday I slipped and fell. That was one for the video.
Betty, breading is on my mind, but way down, good dogs is my priority, and we train like we have time on our side. No rush, well I can't rush anyway, so what's the big deal. I came up with that mind set.
Thanks Betty, it seems that you are the one to reply, hope I am not persona non grata to my family. We will see, thanks once again. Dan

Awww, Dan! Course not!!!
Personally, I wouldn't let them run together while unsupervised. Maybe give them each a box fan, so even if they don't have a large amount of shade, they've at least got a cross breeze?

Kelly, why not let them run together? I have some ideas, as getting too doggie, or replacing me as a third status, but the they have to earn, the time together. Please give me some pointers.
Thanks Kelly I miss you guy's. Dan

I don't let any dogs run together unsupervised. A dog spat can go south too quick.
Know too many people that had dogs together unsupervised for years and one day came home to a dead dog.

Hey Dan, I think folks were saying to not leave the two dogs unattended in one kennel all day long, not saying to never let them play with you right there - I THINK. I personally would put a shade cloth type of tarp over the condo/run which isn't getting as much shade. These are not expensive and allow for wind and rain to pass through - I'm not talking a solid plastic type of tarp, but the type which is used in green houses to provide more shade or the type which is appropriate to cover/tarp plants in the back of a truck. Cheap and easy and will give Carla lot more shade.

Betty said it all!!!! You just never know when someone is going to get grumpy, and a slight snarl could turn serious, quickly.

Thanks to all, I would not like it one bit if any of my dogs got hurt, yesterday I only had the dog with the least shade out, but later I set up the pool and had them in it.
Would look into the fan and the tarp, will sovel the situation somewhat maybe with a tree next year. Love ya all. Dan

Hey Dan, nice to hear from you and how your pups are doing.
...since my female can be aggressive, no fights but groulings which is a signal to lay off
They do get along fine but my gut tells me to be careful,
I live with a pack of dogs and this would very much be telling me what my decision with these two dogs would be. For whatever reason your female is speaking loud and clear here, I would be listening to her.
Some dogs just simply don’t need or care for the closeness of other dogs and sometimes it’s situational. While she’s going through this stage in her development, I would definitely be keeping them apart.
Their senior years may be different.
The tree sounds nice. Stay cool.
