Hi Everyone. I've been pretty active on the board lately! I'm expecting my second GSD in October and I am full of questions. I switched my male GSD from Orijen dry puppy food to K-9 Kraving (a raw fortified diet that comes frozen; beef, chicken, etc.) when he was about a year old. He thrives on raw and loves it. I laugh when I read to take the food up within 15 minutes because with the raw food it's gone in two He is so handsome, sheds minimally and has that healthy glow.
Anyway, I'd like to follow suit with my new pup. Should I begin the transition sooner or later? I am concerned over her getting too much protein while she's still growing...how big an issue is that? I'm a bit confused over how much protein is too much.
Since it is AAFCO approved for all life stages, I wouldn't worry about the protein content being too much. At least by their definition, it shouldn't be too much, and is suitable for "all life stages".
With that out of the way, I would start switching sooner rather than later. JMO.
Touche Faisal! I'm glad to hear that raw is working for you
But seriously, I get more compliments on my dog's coat and color and I really believe that it's from his diet. My mom has two Rotties that suffer from "eye goo" and I have tried to turn her on to raw telling her it would surely go away...to no avail. She's old-school Alpo.
Thanks to everyone on your advice. I am thinking instead of going from breeder food to high quality dry I might just go right to raw.
