I browse my local CL to kill a few minutes @ work. Friday, 9-2 someone at the local Animal Shelter had taken some time to post ads of a few dogs. One really caught my eye & I kept coming back to his picture and bio. He was originally a stray, caught last March, been in the shelter over 6 MONTHS, an older (6-7) dog, very laid back and gentle. Chow mix.
I do NOT need another dog. But I kept going back to his picture. His brown eyes were so expressive. He looked so sweet. Saturday I told my son who's 14 about him. He said "Mom if you want him go get him." I told son HIS duty was to talk me out of it -- not encourage me to star on the next episode of 'Hoarders'!!!
So I putzed around, 'yes I'll go see about him'/'No I won't -- someone else will get him.' Finally we went about 3 in the afternoon. I told my son on the way "If God means for me to have the dog, he'll still be there. If not, some other nice family will already have adopted him." Lo and behold, a mother/daughter duo was JUST filling out the paperwork for Caesar. I was very happy he was going to a new home, finaly.
Before I left, his Foster Mom got my name/phone # in case this family didn't work out. (You know where this is going don't you?)
Wednesday she called me and said the family never finished the adoption of Caesar because they found out he had an ear infection and didn't want to take him to the vet 2-3 times more and bother with the drops, etc.
I picked Caesar up Thursday afternoon. He's lying here asleep beside me right now. <sigh> I can never go to the shelter again. I DO NOT NEED any more dogs!!!!!!

Here's Caesar:
He had a hemotoma on his right ear that self-ruptured. Then the infection. I have ear wash and drops, but the vet wants to see him back at least 2 more times. He shakes his head a lot (not just to get the drops out either) but the eardrums are still intact and he can hear. The foster association is paying for all of it -- I just have to get him to the vet which I don't mind.
He is a love! A big ol' squishy thing! He loves people and made such an impression on the shelter folks that 4 workers came out to hug him when I went there to meet the foster mom. WE're gradually become used to each other. He totally leaves the cats alone!! However many years he has left, he can spend them with me.

Some things are really meant to be and I mean it. Just don't look at any more pix on the shelter site! Speaking of meant to be, I tried to buy my dutchie from the breeder at age 6 mos. He wouldn't sell him...I couldn't forget about the puppy. Then I ended up rescuing him 6 months later...then he ended up saving me.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

Deb, that's so AWESOME!!!!!!
That nagging little voice that makes you go back and look at a certain dog (or horse) over and over -- My grandfather would say it's St. Francis giving you a little nudge
By the way, all of my animals picked me, I had no choice in the matter

Aww, what a sweet looking guy! Congratulations! It sure does sound like he was meant for you!
Something similar happened with Kenzi. I fell in love with her picture on Petfinder, filled out the application, passed the rescue requirements, talking with the rescue everything seemed like what I was looking for in my next dog, drove 1.5 hours to meet her and decided to pass because she ad very little interest in any toys.
But she was still in the back of my mind. I checked out the rescue website a week later to see if she was adopted yet (a couple other people had been interested) and saw pictures of her in a new foster home where she was chasing balls and playing tug like crazy.
So I sent an email saying I was interested. And tried to figure out when I'd have a chance to make the 5 hr RT drive to get her. I got an email back saying she was mine if I wanted her and that her new foster home was just 1/2 hour away from where I lived.
Yup. Go figure.
I've stayed far, far away from petfinder ever since

That dog was MEANT for you!!
My Hobbes picked me, I think, as after I looked at him, he whined and barked when I walked away. Then he sliped his collar so the little bugger could get inbetween me and whatever other dog I tried to look at. I tried to talk myself out of him as he was a little younger than I was looking for at 6-8months old but his persistance won me over. To this day, he still prefers me over any other member of the family and I couldn't imagine life without him. The biggest shocker was when I saw his intake form, I realized that he'd used to live a couple of doors down from us, been impounded and then surrendered to the shelter. It was a shock to me, as I'd walked him back to his former home afew times as he was always seemed to escape from them and end up on my front door step. Funny thing is, he's never tried to escape from me. Is it possible that Hobbes always knew where he was supposed to be?

again this week at petsmart a little spaniel mix is not being adopted. When you reach in to pet him, he sits and just leans his little head against your hand. Even when kids pet him, he remains well behaved. He is little, has wirey long black hair. Looks like a terrier/spaniel mix. If I didn't have 3 dogs, he'd be mine in a minute. You can see he has a soft temperment and the atmosphere at petsmart with all the dogs barking isn't really his cup of tea. This is in temecula california. If anyone is looking for a little sweet spaniel mix, go there next sunday and please adopt him.
My other 3 terriers were all dogs that my husband and I couldn't get out of our heads. Now they are ours. We love em, they were made just for us.
Anyway, I pray that that little sweet pup gets adopted to a good home soon. I hope someone will go down next weekend and get him.
