Bijou and I training last weekend. She is 9 months old. This is a new field so the distraction level is pretty high.
The first exercise on the video is the send away, in the first clip I sent her without showing her the target (a softball) and I also sent her farther than I have before (handler error), so she didn't go all the way. Elizabeth was filming, and she stopped to run out and show the target, so that's why the clip is chopped up like it is. Anyway, enjoy!
It's cool for me to watch because my girl is just a few weeks younger. I'm very impressed with the distance you have on your positions so far. I'm still having difficulties with "stand," I feel like I'm going to have to keep luring it forever!
You are luring into the stand with food in your hand? Try walking into her to make her pop up into a stand instead. Then you can fade the lure into just moving your knee a tiny bit. This is much easier to fade than luring with your hand, because from the beginning the dog has the picture of you standing upright.
Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. I've been doing it ME style, but she's taking forever to really catch on.
However, I haven't trained that much until about a month ago. She had little to no food drive until she started her first heat for some reason, and her tugging sucked while teething.
That looks really good! You are already stepping into her a little bit for the down-to-sit (at :09), and she looks to be sensitive to that kind of body pressure, so it shouldn't take much and you should be able to fade it quickly, which is key. Also, you might want to try adding a bit more time between the command and the gesture. Let me know how it works!
