Dave Lilley Webboard User Reg: 08-10-2001 Posts: 380 Loc: Offline	I primarily train with a ball on a string and my 10 month old GSD has developed a habit of heeling with her butt out crooked (away from my body). Its apparent that she is trying to get into better positon when the ball is dropped from my left shoulder. When I tuck the ball under my left arm and drop it... the results are somewhat better. Any suggestions on how to get her butt more parallel (straight) when heeling?

Try heeling her close alongside a fence, building or something on the left that would prevent her from letting her butt stick out. Try heeling in a left arc or serpentine instead of a straight line and only drop the ball on the left hand arc when she is in proper position. Try tossing the ball to the left or to the left rear for a reward instead of dropping it & only reward when she is in proper position. Ellen Ellen Nickelsberg

He holds this leash behind his butt (by his rear wallet pocket and a second short lead on the collar. This keeps the dogs rear where you want it during twists and turns. He uses spit hot dogs for this among other differences. One thing on the tape is they use a second leash around the dogs abdomen just in front of the back legs. It is held in the Right hand, behind your back, and the dog is corrected with that. The context was teaching the turns, but it should work here.
