My mom mentioned this site to me after hearing me complain that 3 dogs shed enough to make a sweater
I think that having a keepsake made of your dog's shedded hair is really kind of cool. Especially if you have one getting "up there" in age and you are thinking of what you would like to do to keep their memory displayed.
Some might think it's a little creepy to "wear" your dog, but I know a leftover fur scarf from Haz would be amazingly soft and remind me how he keeps me so warm on the couch.
Thought I'd share for those looking to recycle dog hair into something neat (Though some things are a bit spendy) http://www.customdoghairspinning.com/Handspun%20Chiengora.htm
Dog undercoat is also incredibly warm to wear. And cleaned/conditioned it doesn't smell nearly like it does on the dog I'm kind of a natural fiber snob...
FWIW, I think the prices are very reasonable for the work involved. You're probably looking at at least 12-14 hrs of work in a scarf between fiber prep, spinning, crocheting and finishing.
What a great idea!! Wow... to have an Edward earring even.
I wonder if you did a good brush just after an aromatic bath in shedding season if it would minimize the smell, should the items get wet.
Mara, I'll bet you'd be really good at something like this. If you decide to get into it, please let me know. I'll send you Echo in a bag. A scarf or mitts...heck we could probably get a sweater and jacket off his spring shed too.
Yes Mara! Please do let us know if you get into doing something like this. I agree,, that for the work that goes into a piece, it indeed justified. I'm just cheep, but when you think about it, it's about like feeding 3 bags of good quality kibble. Not so bad if you consider that
ETA: Apparently, this older gal has became a muli-millionaire selling her dog hair products.
