Since it looks like several of us can be, umm, slackers in training when given the chance, I figured I'd start an ongoing thread that we can check into/add to to help keep our motivation up!
If you're doing a blog like Kelly, perhaps add a link to your blog posts as you write them to update/inspire us...
Today's training for my dogs -
Kipp - a session on sheep in the round pen. I'm starting to work on stops with him and got him to stop several times. It's still a huge workout for me, but he is lookng much better than the video from a few weeks ago. I'll try to get another one to post in the near future.
Kenzi - a couple of short search sessions tonight. My brother hid in a tree not my idea but she found him/alerted nice and was only slightly confused by it.

Well I just got out of hospital today, so I've just taught 'crutches are not evil but you will move your furry butts out of the way'
Then we worked on 'fetch the TV remote' and 'get the mail'

I wanted to teach the touch pads with the back feet, as mentioned on another thread, but I realized that Mitzi only knows how to back up if she's in heel position and I'm backing up, too (as we do in Rally).
So today we started on backing up while in the front position.
She's not getting it very well, so it might be a while till we get to the touch pads

Jethro
Tongue clicks mean Follow Me - in the house, out in the yard, on the walk
Loose leash walking - in the yard, out on the walk
Back (from the front, backing up) - in the house
Sit - outside, high distraction
Wait - outside, high distraction
This Way (rapid about turn) - outside, low and mid distraction
Skipper
Thumbs Up (visual marker training - he's quite deaf) - in the house

Heeling under moderate distraction (loud teenagers, barking dog) 50ft away. Right turn. Lesson aborted for unidentifiable mouth injury.
Was going to do downstay on a high table then "look" closer to the kids.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

Geez a better system than all the pieces of paper and post-its stuck in the journal that I never open to read, NICE.
Because of my slacking to details, I have lost continual focus so instead of linking we have to step backwards a bit, my fault but we'll still have fun. Hopefully reading others blogs and posts I will continue to learn and process, then put to use.

That blog IS a great idea!
I'm stuck on the "hip-pocket-size spiral notebook" method. But ANY ongoing log beats none.
I have little tabs made of Postits for different dogs and a tiny "golf pencil."
My next step up will be to a hip-pocket-size ring binder so I can add and remove pages. I just haven't found the perfect one yet, that fits in all jeans back pockets.
I know .... a real dinosaur.

Cleaning out the backed up sewer drain...oh wait...that's not training lol.
My poor dogs are in their crates, waiting for the plumbers to be done. Then, they will get to watch me and my hubby clean the basement. Not a good day for them.
I guess you could say I am training them to wait patiently in their crates with strange men in the basement.
Tomorrow is another day though!

Jethro - outside, medium to high distraction: meeting strangers nicely, meeting horses nicely (at a great distance!), walking on a loose lead, tongue-click = Follow Me, This Way = Follow Me, Wait, Sit, Halt (no you may not dash across the beach to chase off that seagull), Watch (that seagull eating your beloved mussell collection on the crab traps that you are not allowed to have).
- inside, medium distraction: Settle Down (I see the person rowing the row boat thank you)
- moving from inside to outside: Wait (in a Sit until I cross the door jamb and invite you onto the deck); Sit (on the deck until I am off the deck and invite you into the yard).
- out in the yard, low distraction: Fetch (2 x!)
- out in the yard, extremely high distraction: Halt, Sit (while that deer up in the driveway casually turns and walks away, no you may not chase it).
Skipper - inside, low distraction: following a pointing finger to his bed in a laundry basket (yes, Skipper, my bed is off limits), thumbs up (visual marker release to get his food), flat hand (visual signal for Wait, while I put the food down and give the thumbs up).
