I was playing tug today with Logan after heeling. I was using a rolled wash cloth in case that matters. I released him and normally he grabs the towel and hangs on when I spin around...he missed, I though ok...got it and let go...3rd time hit it as usual but anytime there was a lot of pressure he whinned, never let go and even growled. I let him have it and then took it. I looked in his mouth all over and couldn't find anything. There was blood on the towel but I couldn't find a thing wrong in his mouth. Anyone ever have this happen? I don't think he bit himself, his tongue was ok. I played again (lighter though) and he whinned again so I stopped for good...checked again nothing. He still wanted it (but he's a dutchie he would do anything)
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
A few weeks back my pointer was the meat in a boerboel sandwich in the dark over the fields in the pouring rain, they collided, she was in the way, and there was blood gushing out of her mouth - turned out once I got her home she had bitten her bottom lip, and when it finally stopped, there was a really titchy lump there.
Mouth bleeds always seem worse I think because of the amount of saliva mixing with it.

To stop mouth bleeding and ease pain, give the dog a drink of cold water. like anything on the head - a tiny cut will cause a worrying amount of bleeding.
If it's not actively bleeding, I'd be concerned about teeth too. How is he with letting you handle his mouth? Can you get a good look at all of his teeth, including the back molars? I'd check all his teeth thoroughly, and feel the gum line, inside and out, along with feeling his lips for lumps/soft spots/sore spots.
If he's not back to playing tug normally with 24hrs, I'd probably take him in.
There was still blood (tiny) yesterday on his tug but he didn't show any pain. I didn't look today at his mouth and didn't see any more blood. He is eating just fine (chicken legs). He is good about letting me check him but gets squirmy after a while. I really hope its not a tooth...I really hope he just cut the roof of his mouth on something (sounds horrible but you know what I mean)...maybe its that old wiggly-giggly ball in the yard he had that right before the walk. Anyway, I'll have to check again in the morning, I just put him to bed.
