I was approached by a co worker who knew of a meat shop that made beef patties and froze them. I didnt quite get the percentages, but they ar emade up of liver, kidney, heart, ground beef, water and tvp. all came from beef.
The thing is, they made it back in 2008 and its been frozen since. They have about 20 cases of this (10 lbs per case) and will sell it to me for dirt cheap to get rid of it.
Did I find a deal? or am I expecting to get problems?

I think that the remonendation is 4-6 months. Although I have kept factory sealed 'tubes' frozen for closer to 9 months or so, with no problem & with out freezer burn.
But I would think that 3 years is WAY too long to still be any good nutritionally. Also I would expect it to be pretty freezer burned.
I would be concerned about the ratio of organ meat to muscle meat, also. Even if you are feeding it as part of a RMBs meal. You need to know that ratio. You also could be setting your dog up for a terrible case of 'the runs' if the organ meat % is too high, not to mention nutritional defecits with an inbalance.
So, personally, I don't think that it is a deal. Especially for a puppy that needs an optimumally balanced diet to support his growning body.
The only thing about the deal that raises a red flag for me is the percentages of what?
I would find that out and post back with that info, and we'll let you know if it's a deal or dud.
I think any answer will be acceptable, but you need to know so you will use it in the diet appropriately.
It may have all the right percentages, and be acceptable as a stand alone portion of the diet. Or it could be that it is just a mush of leftovers with no forethought into balance, which case you could add it to a well varied RMB based diet.
40% ground beef, 12% heart, 12% kidney, 10% bone dust and I didnt get the rest. But if the 3 years is far too long to even consider, then I think I should just avoid this situation all together. I was told they made it based off of the "Instinct" brand, but she didnt state any veggies in the patty.
