Hey friends... I've not been around much lately, but if you're wanting to keep track of Koenig and I, I'm keeping my new blog pretty up to date. ( DutchBrindleBeast.blogspot.com )
On other MUCH more important notes (IMO), I know many of you are in the police force, or first responders of another sort... or know/are related to one.
Mount Ranier National Park Rander Elizabeth Anderson was shot and killed in the line of duty 1/1/2012. This is 30 minutes away from my home, so very local. Richard is a Fire Fighter, so it's very close to us emotionally.
Today, while walking the dog and the kid to daycare, we we lucky enough to see the procession to the memorial. Richard was going to go, to help represent his station, but the seats in the Wildland rig quickly filled, with senior FireFighters wanting to pay respect to Ranger Anderson.
She leaves behind a husband who is also a Park Ranger at Mount Ranier National Park, and 2 children. First Responders from all over Washington State came, to honor her, and her service. Hanford in Eastern Washington, Moses Lake, Border Patrol, and many many more. Please, take 13 minutes out of your day and take the time to watch this video and honor her memory. Thank you, Ranger Anderson.

Hey, mised ya.
That is really sad to hear, I understand the dangers on that kind of work, my father is a retired cop here. People don't realize how dangerous a park ranger's job can be...they're basically a cop and have to deal with poachers. Again sorry to hear.

This man wasn't even a poacher... it started with him blowing through a barricade of Rangers checking tires/chains for winter weather. He was NOT a good person, and wanted for a New Year's Eve shooting. Ranger Anderson set up a road block further up, and he shot her while she was still in the vehicle. (you can find plenty of articles if you google Ranger Anderson)
As terrible as it sounds, many people have said things to the idea of how fitting it is, that Mother Nature took care of this man (he was found dead, in a snow back the following morning- died of exposure, I believe).... Ranger Anderson wan't JUST a Park Ranger, she had a true passion for her work Richard has heard through his connections. Nothing makes what happened OK, but this was as fitting of an end as I can think of.
I love this state. I love the mountains. This time, our occasional crappy weather was JUST what was needed.

I noticed they say its believed he was suffering from PTSD. What does that mean he either has it or he doesn't right? OK if he really is then that's one thing but just because he's a vet doesn't mean he automatically had that.
Sorry I just hate using something as an excuse...its unfair and stigmatizing to the ones who do have it. (maybe he was I dunno) BTW mother natures does take care things sometimes. ;-)
Anyway about her, again that is very sad. I mean when people are out there in that weather trying ensure your safety, DON'T be rude to them at the very least! I mean jeez why would you not have chains? Why would you be mad at them for checking? Their the ones who will pull you out of a ditch.
Ranger Anderson may have been one of those who really believed in her job's purpose. So many don't (around here that's a problem) and it always seem that the good ones get killed or are unrecognized.

Hi Kelly. Hope all is well with you. I'm very glad you posted the story about Ranger Elizabeth Anderson and the link. I followed that story closely the day it happened. I was very saddened by her senseless murder, made even more tragic by the fact that two young children are now motherless.
Even though she has left too soon, it sounds like she lived a good life, doing what she loved. And I certainly understand a person wanting to be a park ranger. When she went to work every day, she was surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of Mt. Ranier National Park.
My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

That scumbag was *not* a combat troop, he was booted from the Military with a less than honorable discharge and served only eight months in a combat zone as a support troop.
The media loves to jump on the "PTSD" excuse as a way to trash the Military, the liberal bias of the media is disgusting.
That loser was a thug, plain and simple.

Will, I thought of you when I posted that I'm glad mother nature took care of the prick.
And exactly what Will said everyone- the media grabbed PTSD and ran.... that guy was sketchy far before his time in the military.
