So I found out that you can get low costs HW meds at Petco this weekend (Luv My Pet clinic) and rabies shots for $5. I called and asked about being in the crowded store, if they could do it outside...she said not to worry its all done outside in a van. She that I wouldn't have get past any other pets.
.
Well that was not the case at all...you had to go in the store to sign up...there was a mass of people with lunging, barking, peeing dog and including 2 bitches in full blown heat. I got as far as the door without my dog and said no way. Not only that people were waiting outside the trailer with more lunging dogs RIGHT AT the door to come out...yeah great situation. I left because it was chaos and there was nobody to talk to.
Then I took Logan to the bark to walk in the woods. I saw a man ahead with a loose aggressive shihtzu chasing after a walker, the man kept yelling at the dog, I bailed and ran with Logan down another trail before it saw us. Then a small child came down the trail towards us being dragged by a standard poodle in a flei. I got off to the side and Logan was very (just for the record). I said firmly NO and the dog stopped, the kid encouraged him to get closer I said NO again. Finally the mother took the leash and her friend said "oh, not nice?" I said "actually, he's a great dog who isn't sure about dogs running up to him....you should always ask first" She gave me a dirty look for the advice.
Sometimes its just not worth going out. I wanted to tell her what could happen one day to her dog and kid but refrained. Maybe she'll think better about that and asking after the fact.

I was at Petco Friday with $12 in coupons to get some dog food. The dog food was under a $47 sign and I took it to the front to pay and the dog food rang up $52. I ask them to check and they came back and said it was $52 so I told them to forget about it and left. Went to Tractor Supply and get it for $48. That was my last time to go into Petco.

This is a thread that hits close to home. I'm constantly amazed at how people will let their dogs approach strange dogs, then act like that dog is a monster when it reacts.
I am limited to where I can take Sadie because, although she is super friendly towards people, she is reactive to other dogs. However, we MUST go to the vet. Well, on one visit, a young man emerges from the back of the clinic with a lab pup on a retractable leash. The pup heads straight for Sadie, who predictably hackles up. I warn the man that that is not a good idea. He says "Oh, he just wants to play".I said "Well, my dog is serious". At that, he starts trying to pull back on the reel, but the retractable leash is still feeding out. I was seated with Sadie next to me, so now I have this pup still coming and I have a worked up Sadie practically in my lap trying to get at it.
My voice raises involuntarily as I tell the guy that he's gonna get someone (probably ME) hurt. He finally reaches down and picks up the puppy, and I take Sadie outside until called to the exam room. When I return to the waiting room, a third party starts admonishing me because I scared the guy. All I could say was that someone needed to scare him, but that wasn't received very well, either.
Another time, a neighbor, who knows that her dog (an old, crippled Mal mix) and Sadie have postured at one another in the past, CARRIES her dog in into my yard to "visit" Sadie. I say "you know they don't like each other, right?" She says "They haven't been properly introduced". Before I could intervene, her dog growls at Sadie, so guess what... I get to practice Ed's method for breaking up a dogfight (which I must say works very well!). When the fur settles, she says "I thought Sadie would cut Lady some slack since she's so old".

Petco does suck...pet stores suck.
Wow, the lady carried her dog to a dog that wants to eat her dog.
I had sweet little old chow mix in petsmart one day...this obese lab/golden drug his owner to us. Sport was good with others IF they didn't hurt her (she had HD and Lyme). This dog ran into her and she snarled and snapped/bit the dog's face. The dog backed off but the owner said "that's a MEAN dog OMG, You shouldn't bring a MEAN dog in here!" I told him his dog was rude and out of control.
Its one thing if the dumb owner has a friendly dog....but when its LOOSE and aggressive, the shout its ok, he's friendly. I have had that happen before with a brown lab who was very aggressive...I had to kick it 3 or 4 times to prevent a fight, then the owner gets mad because I kicked his dog. I flipped. There I was trying to hold back my new dutchie pup and this dumb@$$ complains that I kicked his dog...his dog was lucky. I was not nice at all after that and gave him "leash 101". Funny thing is, next time I saw him, the dog was on a leash and prong collar.
I feel like I am cursed because I can't remember how many times my dog (and former dogs) have been attacked or some similar situation. Its kind of ridiculous when I want to work on my dog ignoring other dogs but this happens and I have to avoid most other dogs and forgo any training. Or god forbid I just want to walk in peace.
Sorry, I just had to get this out of my system after today's BS.

Don't be sorry... I find this very therapeutic.
Wow, the lady carried her dog to a dog that wants to eat her dog.
Well, Sadie should've taken her age into account. Maybe if they had been properly introduced...

Yeah you interrupted the proper introduction process and you caused the fight. That poor old dog...Sadie is evil.

We have a new high end pet store. Dogs are welcome but not if they have a choke or a prong. Yep I got kick out when a white mop bark and growled at us. My dogs got to be dangerous just look at the collars they have.
I did not see the sign at first that said no choke or prong.

OMG! People really are getting stupider and stupider. Is it something in the air these days or is it all the additives in the food?

My daughter and I just got back from a walk where we got bollocked by a bloke who was allegedly the farmer, whose field has a footpath on the edge of it, we walked into the middle part away from the footpath to avoid a hyper excited spaniel pup, who was pogoing on the spot, so doing what we thought was the sensible thing, we moved our 4 out of the way, a van pulls up on the road, and this bloke starts waving his arms and shouting at us that the field isn't a footpath, we were trespassing and to get back the way we came, I started to explain WHY we were in the middle of the field, and he started getting closer and closer, still shouting, Kaiser was giving the warning growl, deep in his chest, so I told him not to come any closer, thankfully he heard that!
Don't get me wrong, we shouldn't have been on his field, (if he was the farmer, which I doubt), but he didn't have to be so bloody rude and aggressive, and I told him that, and I felt vindicated in my decision when seconds later, the man with the gigantic dog aggressive Akita on a flexi came barreling toward us all hackles and teeth!
So despite being ticked off by a village oike, which left my usually demure and polite daughter frothing at the mouth, I preferred that to a dog altercation!

Friday night, I took Toni and Drift to a fundraising event held by one of the local humane societies. Toni was doing a flyball demo, and Drift was a TDI representative.
I spent the majority of the evening saying "excuse me, your dog is trying to attack mine" to oblivious owners at the far end of a Flexi leash.
I took Toni out to the car after her demo run and a little freakshow of a Chi ran up to her and tried to bite her- I got between (the dog literally slammed into my shin bone) and yelled at the lady holding the (you guessed it) Flexi leash. "oh, he just wants to be friends with your dog" I replied that my dog has enough friends, and that she needs to understand that not all dogs want to be friends with hers. Don't think I got through to her at all.
I also had people try to pet Toni even though I had a vest on her that said "Working Dog Do Not Pet". One of them was a new member of our flyball team that I had not met before. When I pointed out the vest, his reply was "oh, I thought that was just for strangers" Ummm, you ARE a stranger!!!!!!
On the bright side, I took Caterina to PetCo yesterday and all went well. People that wanted to pet her asked politely before approaching her, and they got down on their knees as well. I was as impressed with the people as I was with Cat
While there will ALWAYS be stupid people, there are also some that are educated, or that will listen when we try to teach them about proper dog etiquette.
I do, however, think people need to take a test before they should be allowed to hook a dog up to a Flexi/ retractable leash. in my opinion, the Idiot X Flexi combination is the biggest contributor to dog fights.
