So as some of you know I have a 21 month old Aussie male who is dog reactive. Great when with dogs, barks when he sees them, especially on walks. Anyway, last night we were on our way back from our last walk/play/train session of the day, around 10:45 pm. About 50 feet or so in front of us an old man and his little black dog pop out from behind a garage ( I live in a condo community in South Florida, lots of old people with little yappy dogs!). Same person and dog surprised us like this about 2 weeks ago and Gunner (my dog) went bananas. Last night as soon as I saw them we crossed to the other side of the street and Gunner walked all the way past without a bark, or growl. He was definitely interested and was looking at the dog, but he kept walking forward! This was the first time I really felt like he was trying to do what we've been working on. Then today I took him to PetCo and he was sniffing the bushes in the front and from out of nowhere two big black poodles walked about 10 feet in front of him, he just looked at them and went back to his business. I know we will have many more setbacks and challenges down the road, but it's so nice to have a little success once in a while!!
Anyway, I try not to post too much but I check the forum every day and just wanted to share since so many of you have been so helpful to us. Thanks!!

Whoo HOOOOOOO!
That sounds like an awesome success!
Never worry about posting updates, I know people around here LOVE to hear when someone who has been working SO hard has these moments!
Congrats to you and your dog!
YUP!
You took charge, gave your dog the perception that YOU are in charge, gave him breathing room and a fallback behavior ...... this is work, and this deserves kudos!
I too have a very reactive stinky dog. Fortunately he doesn't instigate anything with other dogs, but if the other dog looks at him cross-eyed - it's on! So I completely understand how good it feels when your pup finally 'gets it!'. yeah for you and Gunner!
