A long time ago I saw someone using a walkie-talkie (sp?) to evaluate another handlers use of an e-collar. When ever the collar was used it made an audible tone on the walkie-talkie. Since I have absolutely no understanding of modern electronics, I was wondering if this would work with any type of hand held device or would there be specific requirements? Thanks,
Chad when I'm doing a seminar or working with a new client I use a CB radio. It makes a squawking noise when I push the button on the transmitter and allows them to know when I'm stimming the dog.
Just about any CB radio will work with most Ecollars. The one I use cost $16 at Radioshack.
If you want to get one, I'd suggest that you bring your own Ecollar to the store and try some out. Try then at longer distances as most work up close but don't work well when the TX unit is farther away.
Don't use them when you're first looking for the dog's working level. If he turns his head in response to the radio noise, you can't tell if it was due to the noise or feeling the stim level.
But once you've found the dog's basic level you can turn it on.
