Hello, I have a 5 year old GSD, Mojo...For the last couple of days she has been limping on her right leg. It looks like her ankle is swollen. We go walking/hiking in the hills every day and I havent been doing that because of her leg. I guess im just looking for some direction. Should I just be patient and let her rest the leg without exercise? Or should I take her to the vet? Im thinking she might have twisted it while running or jumping out of the truck. Should I try to keep her off of it?
You really cant notice the limp when she walks but when she picks up the pace its noticeable. And I think I have seen her licking it also. Your thoughts...
"Licking it also" suggests a pad injury, a foreign body. Check the foot, nails, the pads, between the toes. Especially the pad which is "up a little bit" directly behind the "wrist".
I don't care for swellings over a joint, so if it continued I'd have it checked out professionally. If there are ticks in your area a little tetracycline never hurts.
